Title: need small engine Post by: Gizmo on September 30, 2003, 10:49:33 pm Okay, I've got a little project on the go and need some umph behind it ;D
looking for a 2 stoke engine, but take 4 tho....larger the better but the overall package needs to be fairly compact....needs to have a centrifugal clutch and/or gearbox. Woohoo! Go-Kart time! :P Title: Re:need small engine Post by: A.K.A on October 01, 2003, 12:34:04 pm our ride on lawnmower has just bitten the dust (tranny hydrostatic is now just static) so I can see if I can grab that for you!

I don't have one, but possible donors may need a bit more information: If a 4-stroke, do you need a horizontal or vertical crank? 4-stroke engines don't like it when you flip them on their side--something about putting the sump somewhere other than where the oil pump or "dipper" can reach. ;) Title: Re:need small engine Post by: Gizmo on October 01, 2003, 01:28:31 pm Need a horizontal, but if someone can find a little narrow rear end, a vertical would work...
Title: Re:need small engine Post by: Kevin on October 01, 2003, 02:53:35 pm Next time I am in my favourite hangout I will see if they still have the rear end assemblies for riding mowers they had at one time. They do have two B&S vertical engines 3.75 for $129 and a 5.5 for $199. I'd like to see you try that setup I sent you, with a deep cycle battery and a starter motor behind you it may be a wheelstander. ;) Kevin
Title: Re:need small engine Post by: dguy on October 08, 2003, 11:38:22 am Hey Nick, have you thought about a snowmobile engine?
I saw a neat toy over at my neighbour's place yesterday. One of his kids bought a fix-me-up go-kart, powered by an air cooled, 2 cylinder, 2-cycle snowmobile engine. Probably between 350 and 550cc by the size of it. Completely home-brew machine, which used the donor sled's CVT to link to the rear wheels. If you ask me, a CVT beats the heck out of a fixed gear ratio. ;) I've seen beat-up-but-running snowmobiles selling for next to nothing in the classifieds on many an occasion. I doubt Ray would mind if I took a couple of photos and posted them, if you're interested. Title: Re:need small engine Post by: BootMachine on October 21, 2003, 12:17:03 pm I have a Honda civic engine you could use! Its a 1.5L (91.5 CID) side shaft engine. About 115 HP SOHC MPFI 7000RPM red-line. I have a 5spd box to go with it! That would get the go-kart moving.
ALSO...I have a smaller twin-rotor Rotary engine from BOMBARDIER with about a 9000 rpm red-line if you want to use that! |
