Title: custom mirrors Post by: GSXRBOBBY on January 27, 2004, 08:27:14 pm I was wondering if someone has used mirrors?

Title: Re:custom mirrors Post by: dguy on January 28, 2004, 09:59:28 am I was wondering if someone has used mirrors? Yep, I have used them in the past, and I continue to use them every time when I'm out driving. Sometimes I use one when shaving as well. ;D What do you have in mind? Title: Re:custom mirrors Post by: GSXRBOBBY on January 28, 2004, 06:21:38 pm I can't get it to show up, clip on the file of the first post, looking for a euro style mirror ???
Title: Re:custom mirrors Post by: FieroBUZZ on January 28, 2004, 07:11:47 pm I thought you had a speed shop. Almost every aftermarket company for rods/trucks/imports has a shitload of different side mirrors.
The one in your pic looks to be mounted on the little triangle piece at the bottom of the windshield. If you open your door with the side window up you'll see that it wants to use this space. You'll need to carefully choose a mirror that does not interfere, or mount it so that it opens with the door. Title: Re:custom mirrors Post by: GSXRBOBBY on January 28, 2004, 08:25:27 pm As far as the shop goes I don't have every book out there, or at least not yet ;)
I have found a mirror and I am going to see if its going to work, I was hoping to find one that I knew would work. Title: Re:custom mirrors Post by: dguy on January 29, 2004, 08:52:16 am I can't get it to show up, clip on the file of the first post, looking for a euro style mirror ??? I don't think the forum software recognizes files with an extension of .jpe as an image. It should show up attached to this message. Title: Re:custom mirrors Post by: aaron88 on January 29, 2004, 10:22:53 am Hmmmm...I see a vibration issue here. Do you want to be able to see that mirror?
Aaron . Title: Re:custom mirrors Post by: GSXRBOBBY on January 29, 2004, 12:16:12 pm I wondered about that, I was hoping to talk to someone that has found a Euro type looking mirror that worked out in a good way.
Title: Re:custom mirrors Post by: aaron88 on January 29, 2004, 12:45:23 pm You can get the vibration out of any mirror by adressing the type of mounting. All it really means is that you may have to modify the mirrors when you get them.
Aaron . Title: Re:custom mirrors Post by: GSXRBOBBY on January 29, 2004, 01:30:32 pm Mounting them is already going to be an issue, they are made to fit on a 92-95 CIVIC, I am looking at mounting them in the front of the window where the black plastic is above the old mirror?
Title: Re:custom mirrors Post by: FieroBUZZ on January 29, 2004, 02:15:57 pm Yes, you may have issues. Hold the mirror on first to see if it will be hit by the window when you open the door. If you are scrawny, you may be able to adapt and squeeze thru.
Other options are to roll down the window before opening the door. ;D Or you may need to make a mount that will fasten to the door and end up when the plastic triangle is when closed. I think this is doable. I considered using a metal plate on the car and some of that magnetic sign stuff on the mirror mount to help steady it when closed. If the shape of the mirror is right, it may mount up fine and clear everything. Title: Re:custom mirrors Post by: GSXRBOBBY on January 29, 2004, 02:36:33 pm I am hoping it will line up right and not hit the window but I'm sure its going to be close! I was hoping to find a mirror that mounted on the door that had a new and better style to it but I don't see anyone finding them either?
Title: Re:custom mirrors Post by: GSXRBOBBY on January 29, 2004, 04:44:15 pm I got it!!!
Title: Re:custom mirrors Post by: FieroDough on January 30, 2004, 08:42:12 am I just want to torture a set of stock mirrors to add signals to them. :) I want it to look stock tho. :)
Cheers! Eric Title: Re:custom mirrors Post by: aaron88 on January 30, 2004, 01:19:10 pm Just another thought. Those mirrors aren't going to be garage door friendly.

Wasn't it the C4 'Vette that had the same mirror glass as the Fiero? Wonder if there are any aftermarket mirrors for 'Vettes with the funky turn signals behind the glass which could be adapted (just thinking of Corvette vs. Fiero popularity here)? I found a few sets for motorcycles a while back. Neat idea, and I love the extra visibility factor of the blinkeys. Hate the bend-over-at-the-counter price tag that went with them though. :o Title: Re:custom mirrors Post by: FieroDough on February 02, 2004, 02:02:03 pm I just want to torture a set of stock mirrors to add signals to them. :) I want it to look stock tho. :) ponder ponder... I will dremel the side mirrors up front to get a turn signal setup in there with some amber reflective material. And then, with hyper bright leds, fashon backup lights in the mirrors as well! It's pretty smart. :) that way when backing up, you don't turn into a curb or anything. Just gonna try it out for fun.. got nothing to lose. :) cheers! Thanks! Eric Title: Re:custom mirrors Post by: GSXRBOBBY on February 09, 2004, 07:20:26 pm Not yet they don't, I'm going to mount them either on the black plastic front corner of the windows or have a bracket come out of the door and cover that plastic corner.
Title: Re:custom mirrors Post by: GSXRBOBBY on March 28, 2004, 11:13:15 pm I got time to play with them this weekend, I started by removing the trim panels. I then removed the old mirrors and the trim around the window. I took a piece of cardboard and made a templet and trimed it down until it fit just right. I traced the back of the mirrors on a piece of paper and marks the holes. I then lined it up on a piece of 20 Gauge sheet metal and marked it with a marker. Then I cut it out with my dremil and drilled the holes. bent the buttom and I am going to mount it up so it covers the old black plastic triangle I removed but I am going to mount them on the door so they open with the door. I will post some pictures soon.
Title: Re:custom mirrors Post by: GSXRBOBBY on March 31, 2004, 01:26:36 am Made the brackets from 18 gauge sheet metal
Title: Re:custom mirrors Post by: GSXRBOBBY on March 31, 2004, 01:30:48 am Removed the small black plastic triangle, then found that there was a lip that needed to be removed, a screw driver and a hammer did the trick. I cleaned it up and painted it.
I am also changing the dew strips, door locks, door handles, and some other stuff while the doors are apart. So I have some other work to do before there mounted on, held up they look good, they angle up alittle more than I wish but still look good. Title: Re:custom mirrors Post by: GSXRBOBBY on April 22, 2004, 09:02:49 pm They are mounted and on and they look great, I just need to wire in the LED turning signal lights and I will get some pictures posted soon.
Title: Re:custom mirrors Post by: aaron88 on April 23, 2004, 09:48:06 am Are they a solid mount or do they vibrate when driving?
Sounds like it's a good solid mount but sometimes a solid mount will vibrate anyway. Aaron . Title: Re:custom mirrors Post by: GSXRBOBBY on April 25, 2004, 11:17:25 am I used a steel sheet metal and just incase I used a thick stip of steel to back it, I haven't had a chance to road test it yet, I'm still doing alot of other things to the car. I will let you all know soon and I will try to take pictures tonight.
