Title: Looking, Best brake upgrade out there Post by: GSXRBOBBY on February 24, 2004, 05:48:20 pm I am looking for a good brake upgrade to put under my 17" Wheels.
I am looking for an upgrade that parts are easy to come by, and are somewhat easy to mount. I don't want to just put cross driller rotors on, I'm looking for bigger pistons and larger rotors. Anyone? Title: Re:Looking, Best brake upgrade out there Post by: BootMachine on February 26, 2004, 01:39:15 pm I can set you up with something for 500 bucks but its not going to be track ready by any means!
I think (if it will fit on your domestic) the KVR Python setup would kick ass. Its like two calipers per rotor like the Ferrari's run. Two piece rotor and its pretty big. We had a buy happening and I think the kit was going for 1300 bones or so! I think I can get you drilled slotted rotors for about 80 ea. x 4 and Carbon Fiber pads for about 40/set x 2. SO THATS......blah blah...CARRY THE ONE......thats $400.00 + TAX = $460. I'm just guessing at prices here. Maybe like 86.99 for the rotors and 33.24 for the pads but my price is pretty close! PM me if you want to discuss details! Title: Re:Looking, Best brake upgrade out there Post by: egirard on February 26, 2004, 03:48:26 pm Hi,
An other solution is to use the Walt Zettner's Brake Upgrade. Check is web site : http://home.earthlink.net/~david.cole/fieroman/walt/walt.htm Eric Title: Re:Looking, Best brake upgrade out there Post by: GSXRBOBBY on February 27, 2004, 06:06:42 pm I don't need it for a track, its a street car. I am looking for a good $500 upgrade. I'm looking for more than just a rotor set, but then again I don't what to get into something where I can't get replacement parts.
Title: Re:Looking, Best brake upgrade out there Post by: fiero308 on February 28, 2004, 01:44:20 pm try the Walt Zettner upgrade; you can do it in stages; maybe just do the front first and leave the back to see if you want/need it.
Supposed to give really good results according to the testimonials. Far more stopping power than the GrandAm upgrade. I would guess the cost would come in around your budget, depending on who you know........ the stuff is all stock and 'very-common-parts-based' (for the front, anyway - the rears use a harder to find caliper) good luck!! Where to go, and do you know a little back ground on this?

I am sure that if you do a search for "Walt Zettner" you will get a TON of stuff back but in case you cant' find what you are after I have made up (condensed) some of it and can send it off-site. I started out doing this but wanted more, so I have heavily modified the front end where I am doing something with modified spindles, Wilwood calipers and corvette rotors now. 5 on 4 3/4" bolt pattern all round. Rears I am using S10 bearings in Pontiac 6000 uprights, or 'knuckles'. Gets a bit confusing I guess..... Using 16" wheels for the time being but looking at going to 17" for more 'comfortable' caliper to rim clearance. Will be back at it April and May and really hoping to get it rolling this summer. Too busy right now. All I have to do is stop working........ :( good luck with it and let me know if you need that article. Email me off line and I'll try to dig some stuff up. gp Title: Re:Looking, Best brake upgrade out there Post by: GSXRBOBBY on March 08, 2004, 11:46:28 am http://home.earthlink.net/~david.cole/fieroman/walt/walt.htm
I was wondering if anybody has done this brake swap or knows anybody so I could ask a few questions. Do the fronts and upgrade the master cyl. Leave the Fiero rear calipers on as they give you a working ebrake. I have GA rears only (due to $$$ on brake failure) and it's okay but no great shakes. As most of the work is done in the front, that's the ones that should be done. You'll need to machine your Fiero hub and do a little grinding to fit the calipers and rotors. I believe they are early 90's GA parts. Late models are a different bolt pattern as well. Master cylinder is from a full size Blazer. It moves a bit more fluid than stock, just to compensate for the bigger volume calipers. Title: Re:Looking, Best brake upgrade out there Post by: GoFast85 on March 08, 2004, 12:17:32 pm Best bang for your buck is the front brakes as they do most of the braking anyway.
