Title: re: 245/??/17 wheels in a fiero
Post by: fiero308 on March 25, 2004, 12:18:35 pm
I remember reading about someone who put 245's on their fiero; I think it was JAY????
Whoever it was, - ANYone -  I just wanted to see if you have actually run with them and what has happened re: rubbing, interference, etc etc.  Specifically 245/somethings/17 size.  altho I am interested in the largest tires that anyone has run and this might be of interest to anyone in the club or who watches this site, anyway.

Can you please get back to me asap!?!?!?!?!?
I am trying to plug ahead with my suspension and tire choice/size drives the whole issue of course.
THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
G

There are guys running huge 20's and 255 or 275 widths.  I think you may need to use coilovers, but you are in the odd position of both RWD offset and a rebody. It's going to take some math skills.

You'll likely be looking at 40 or even 35/30 to keep it about the stock circumferance.

Can't say I'm a fan of the big wheel no tire look, sorry.

do you know of the actual WIDTH tho, GAry?
I am trying to get a bigger rim to allow more room around the big brakes.  Kinda drives everything else.
I am mostly wondering how the width would work; my rebody is a bit more than 4" wider at the front and over 5" wider at the rear than stock so that helps but it is inside clearance that I am thinking about; hitting suspension pieces.
thx for the input tho

I’m not really the right person to be asking how things look because, I basically don’t much care how things look.  I care about performance.  So are those tires going to perform or are they just going to look like they are going to perform?  Are you going to have to replace your wheel bearings every year?  It’s really up to you, because you are the one that should like it.  What do you think?

I think they look good, but what does that mean?

Didn't get a chance to look at the numbers. I had them on my car last year. The ride was real ruff. Corners sweet.

My apologies 205's
You can come over and measure the clearances as I have stock suspension.

wow. 40's.  That is going to be a stiff, handling machine!  No doubt that performance is the name of the game here.
Look forward to seeing it but I won't be able to manage this wknd.  Not that I want to lie in the snow  ??? ??? ??? anyway........ yuchhhhh

Acctually 40’s don’t perform as well as 50’s.  They are too stiff and therefore don’t feel the road as well.

thanks Brian; is this a new set up for you or did you have them before?  If so, what are your impressions on them?
and what did you have before THEM?  (for comparison)

Theyt sure do corner.! Was in kempville and on the circle and took it aproaching 3x the speed limit. They hung in there and no squeeling of the tires. The Gran Prix drive who was tailgaiting me had to slow down.

I was in Kemptville yesterday and saw a Fiero in the B&H/ GT parking lot at around 2:00pm.
