Ottawa Fiero Club Forum

Firtst off, I was hoping Nick could read this and modify the www.fierodrivers.com main page to simply have a button on the top for the forum or something obvious for the new guy joining.

Then the fun part. I will put out a few small adds in local pappers for the Fiero club. What would be the best papper to place an add in? and in what section? (of classifieds).

Wow am I ever excited about this season! :)

One of the obvious choices for the Ottawa area should be the Citizen, but I have to question the effectiveness of an ad in there.  Given the size of its classified ad section, you have to be a line-by-line reader to find anything in there, or the ad needs to have a different typeface etc. which will "catch" the reader's eye.

Smaller, more local papers might be better in this regard.  Can't speak for the east-enders, but there's a Smiths Falls/Carleton Place/Perth freebie called the Record News EMC.  Best spot for an notice in there would likely be whever they group their social events.

I placed a small ad in the Citizen a while back and it was about $40. Abit steep for a general club ad I figure. Does the City of Ottawa have a "Sports Worker" who keeps track of local clubs? We should get the word out to them. Let our tax dollars do the legwork.

If we did a fund raiser car wash for some important local group like, the Childrens Hospital, or the Cancer Society, some of the local radio stations might mention that we are having it.  Personally I prefer the Hospital.

Personnally I agree with Aaron, people are more likely to hear something on the radio, than to read a little 1'x1' ad in the newspaper.  

And a carwash is a good idea, the fun part is finding a location at which to host it.

Locations are easier than you think.  How many times has someone seen a fund-raiser and/or charity car wash taking place in the parking lot of a gas station or a mall?

Get friendly with the right business owner or two, and problem solved.  Canadian Tire stores in particular seem to like showing themselves off as being involved in the community, so they make a good target for something like this.

Fire departments have also been known to open up a hydrant as a water supply at times.  When I was a young 'un in Boy Scouts, that was generally how we got our water whenever we did a car wash.  I even remember someone gluing together an inverted-U of PVC piping, drilling holes in it, and having a drive-thru pre-wetting/rinse.  :)

I'll whip that page into shape sometime this week, maybe a button or I'll just resize the top banner and turn that into a button, don't know.  Ideas, suggestions?
