Title: Inquiry Post by: 2ML67 on June 07, 2004, 03:09:05 pm Have an 84 Fiero which I am fully rebuilding good and strong for a 3800SC car. I plan on taking about a year to fully rebuild and customize this car. Now I tried selling my 3800SC 86 SE Fiero but no one was interested so what I am considering is pulling the drive train out of the 86 rebuild the engine with lots of extras and instal it into the 84. Question is do you think there would be any interest in my 86. I will be leaving it intact minus drive train but as I plan on rewiring the 84 I am going to be leaving the complete 3800SC harness in the 86. All someone would have to do is buy them selves a 3800SC engine and tranny and bolt it right in, everything else is already there. Opinions please. Dan
Title: Re: Inquiry Post by: aaron88 on June 08, 2004, 12:17:28 pm There can be no harm in trying. Just post the car for sale and indicate that it has been prepped for a 3.8 sc. If it sells, cool, if it doesn’t then you have your answer.

Selling it without a drivetrain will likely only appeal to people looking for a parts or project car. Selling it in a driveable form will almost definitely catch more fish... Title: Re: Inquiry Post by: 2ML67 on June 08, 2004, 03:24:12 pm Tried selling it complete with 3800SC but there was very little interest and I am not willing to give it away as some would suggest. Dan
Title: Re: Inquiry Post by: dguy on June 08, 2004, 03:31:49 pm Silly question--you listed it in more places than just this forum, right? :)
Title: Re: Inquiry Post by: 2ML67 on June 08, 2004, 09:19:58 pm I also listed it on Pennocks, was going to put it in the auto trader but I hate doing that. You get all kinds of idiots wanting to test drive the hell out of it or people saying they will be there at a certain time and never show up. I hate waiting for any thing, patience is not one of my strong points. If it wasn't for the crooked insurance companies I would keep it. Wife is getting liscence so you know how it works two vehicles two drivers, bend over time. Dan
Title: Re: Inquiry Post by: fiero308 on June 09, 2004, 07:24:53 am hi Dan
read the thread - just wondered how hard it is to find another SC3800? Wouldn't it then be easier to sell ie in Toronto, if it was complete and running? I tend to agree with Don about it having fairly special appeal if there is no engine etc. That would cut your market back a lot even tho it would be a REAL easy swap for someone. Yeah, people want to low ball everything, hoping for a miracle. Good luck with whatever way you go on it! Title: Re: Inquiry Post by: GoFast85 on June 09, 2004, 07:30:43 am I advertised my 85 for a while including the AutoTrader and got very little response. Had to get it out of the yard, so it went to a car dealer on consignment. On the lot and if they sell it they get $250. If not they get 0. Gets exposure for me and they create interest in their lot to prospective buyers. Good all the way around. There must be a private car lot in Bellville that would do the same sort of thing
Title: Re: Inquiry Post by: heheheha on June 09, 2004, 07:59:45 am How much would you be selling the gutted car for? And do you have any pics?
Title: Re: Inquiry Post by: 2ML67 on June 09, 2004, 12:10:13 pm Basically she passed emissions April of this year so that is taken care of. Is in certifiable condition so price would depend on just how much of the car they want. It has the aero nose and Gt rear along with the factory rear wing. It has a mint grey interior, power windows and sun roof. All metal brake and tranny lines were new last year, everything is in good shape. I know that I could get a fair bit just for the parts but why not leave in tact that way any one could put a 3800SC back in and have a good car. Dan
Title: Re: Inquiry Post by: aaron88 on June 09, 2004, 01:45:01 pm Two options with the insurance company, you could opt to not tell them there was anything done to the car. This might leave you up shit creek in the event that something happens but It’s all a gamble anyway.
However with specialty insurance you need more cars than drivers in the house and you not supposed to drive your car much at all. Aaron . Title: Re: Inquiry Post by: GSXRBOBBY on June 10, 2004, 05:35:46 pm I'm getting ready to do a Northstar swap and I am going to sell my V-6 and trans., however I am in N.W. Indiana.
Title: Re: Inquiry Post by: heheheha on June 12, 2004, 09:33:25 pm How much for the whole car? If I appear interested, it's because I am :)
Title: Re: Inquiry Post by: GSXRBOBBY on June 13, 2004, 08:09:33 pm Are you asking for me to sell the car as is or when its done?
Title: Re: Inquiry Post by: heheheha on June 13, 2004, 09:41:32 pm Sorry, the question was directed to 2ML67, about his engine and trans-less 86 Fiero.
Title: Re: Inquiry Post by: 2ML67 on June 13, 2004, 10:23:34 pm I have tried posting pictures but I am on too slow of dial up for the sites liking. I will be removing motor, tranny, PCM, fuel tank, tires and rims. Everything else goes with the car, I have stock wheels to put back on her. Engine cradle is good will be left with the mounts still on it as well as the proper axle shafts. Will also supply complete notes on the wiring and mounting of the drivetrain. Car already has battery mounted under pass head light as well as 87/88 headlight assy's. Will be looking for around $1,500 for her.
Title: Re: Inquiry Post by: heheheha on June 13, 2004, 11:34:21 pm Is the PCM the stock Fiero one? What color is the car? Is it set up for a stick or automatic trans? Fastback model? And where are you located?
When you are ready to sell it, I might be ready to stop by and look at it and give you money... :) Title: Re: Inquiry Post by: 2ML67 on June 14, 2004, 08:21:35 am PCM is a stock 1998 Grand Prix GTP one, car is set up for the 4T65E 4 speed auto tranny and is a red notch back. I am located just south of Belleville and she can be ready any time all I have to do is pull drive train. Dan
Title: Re: Inquiry Post by: Rob on June 14, 2004, 10:07:17 am About how much does a the 3.8 sc engine go for around here?
Title: Re: Inquiry Post by: 2ML67 on June 14, 2004, 12:05:47 pm Can usually get a set up consisting of engine, tranny, wiring harness, starter, PCM and matching pass key for around $3,000 plus taxes. Thats at Hotch's south of Belleville they usually have at least one on stock. Right now they have one out of a 99 Park Avenue Ultra with 87,000 km on it. Dan
