Title: Accident update
Post by: FieroDough on September 09, 2002, 10:31:10 am
Hey guys!
Well got some updates on what is going on.

The person who hit me called. Older guy (late 40's). His insurance is going to rocket. He wants to try and settle for the repairs without getting the insurance involved.

Next is forcing the insurance to pay for all the repairs... That involves appraisal, adjusters, maybe court. lotsa head aches.

Letting the insurance write off the car, keep car and undetermined yet probably sall amount of money.

I'm leaning mostly on getting it fixed out of the other guy's pocket. Less hastle for all partys involed.

What do you guys think?

Eric

Been there, bud.  If the other guy actually WILL pay then that may be the best route for all concerned.

Get a couple of estimates, and show the guy what he is up against.  He may change his mind.

We can probably put all the required parts together ourselves cheap enough, and get Christine refinished.

If the guy backs off or won't pay you may get screwed.

How do I make sure that once we go ahead with this he does pay?

Hummmm... I know! how does this sound. (if it works). Assuming the insurace company says they go ahead with the repairs. I get it done, get the guy to pay for it, if he says no, then the insurance was already going to pay. :)

humm.. that is assuming they decided to fix and not total. :(

Well.. we will see. I will know more later today. the insurance will tell me they will fix or total and if total they will give me the first offer. :)

cheers!
Eric

Eric I had the same problem last year with my Sebring . A guy reared me and he did not want to go through the Insurance co. So I got three estimates and I called him I told him that it was going to cost 1700.00 and he said ok so I went to see him and I showed him the paperwork and told him I wanted the money up front and that was the only way this would happen without the insurance co. being envolved he said ok and I only except cash no cheques. so if you go this route get the money first or tell him to forget it . you hold the trump card my friend so go for it.

Insurance adjsuter came by! HE says the car is worth at least 6K and they would have to do the repairs! :P  woohooo!

Now I'm gonna lay down the rules for the other guy. The car will go to the shop the insurance company wants it to go at. The work will be approved. Then when the work is done. the guy gives me the money or I hand over the cheque from the insurance company.

No way for me to get screwed. :P

Cheers!
Eric
