Title: 84 vs. 85+ manual shifter Post by: dguy on August 18, 2004, 07:01:07 pm Brian... here's a photo of the two side-by-side. The one I picked up from Alex is the shorter one.
I measured the difference, but forgot to write it down. :-[ It's an inch plus or minus a bit. Title: Re: 84 vs. 85+ manual shifter Post by: GoFast88 on August 19, 2004, 09:43:03 am So the bend is the same, just the upper lenght. The one that I put in my 85 is straight wigh no bend.

Was it an 84 shifter that you shortened, or one of the longer ones? The height of the 84 definitely is more comfortable for me than the 85+, but given that it's so easy to do I think I'm going to cut the "s" out of one of the extra 85+ shifters we have and see if the reduced height & and different reach is more comfortable yet. I find the shaft really fat. If doing it again I would use a lever from a different car with a smaller diameter. Bent and welded to personal feel. Make it a lot easier to fit a nice aftermarket shifter knob. |
