Title: i didnt even get to experience her!
Post by: mr.tourismo on September 23, 2004, 07:21:26 am
hey guys,
today at around 4:30 - 5pm one of those cube vans hit my neighboors dodge neon, it flew about 10-15 feet and hit my fiero in the rear witch pushed the tow bar witch pushed my dad's jeep about 4 feet away from the original spot.

when i was on the computer i heard noise and my mom thote it was me. she ran to the door to look out side and she tells me:''you should see this''.  i got up and walked to the door and glanced outside.  i see this yellow bread-van with the font end pushed in and my neighboors car on our lawned about 1- 1 1/2 meter from my fiero.  i made a signe of releaf. So i got my shoes on and walked outside.  one of the three ppl from the van pointed at my fiero, i amediatly said:'' aww F***'' i walked up and saw my tails stinking out (it's normal cuz the bolts weren't in ;) ) and i see some of my primer chipping off.  i go under to see the bumper and guess what, the whole pass side of it is tucked in :( . At this time i opened the decklid, everthing looks ok in the trunck, but then to close it would to a 'CLONK' sound and bounce right up!  ???  so i look again and guess what!  my pass side of the fiero (suspension and everthing else) went up about 1/4 to 1/2 an inch!! and now my dad tells me its irepreble after finding some wholes done from the impact on rusted surfaces.

so now my fiero's WRECKED and i didnt get to drive her yet!!!(on the road ;) )
 :'( :'( :'(

so, eheh, i'm back in the market and i'm looking for an '88 this time (2m6 if possible)

it's all the metal inside the bumper cover that's bent in

Well that stinks.

Before you declare the car a goner though, why not take the rear clip & fascia off and get an estimate from a collision shop to have the frame straightened?  You may find that will cost less than purchasing a replacement.

Sorry to hear that.

Wouldn't the cube van's driver have to pay through insurrance????  Or is the damage worth more than the car value??

Joe

I feel for you.  I don’t know what I’d do if something like that happened to me.

I hope that guy’s insurance cover’s everything.

Good luck.

i dont think it's even strechable.  for the insurance, the van's insurance will pay for it but i dont think it's worth it(the frame will be weaker after the strech) and my car was ALMOST not insured, i hade it on a towbar conected to my dad's insured jeep, so it's concedered a trailer ;D .... and i found some holes the impact created from rust spots...

i think the cost is more the car's value at this point cuz. i dont even have a safety or e-test on it yet, i still had alot of work to do on it.
 :'( :'( :'(

the worst part is, i just gave away my other fiero with a good frame for free to a tow truck driver  ::)

C-L: j'aurais du t'écouter.

Frame's bent, you don't want to fix that.

Darn, I'm sorry to hear that  :(

This is just a thought.
Quickly find out what the insurance will give you on a cash settlement for your "trailler". Track down your "other" (good frame) Fiero through the tow truck guy. If it is still availlable and the $$$ matches up, put a hold on it (enven if you have to front a few bucks before you get your insurance check), that was a good rust free frame.

Good luck,

C-L

Another option...

That 86 parts car which Kitten & I have has a near-perfect rear frame aside from the strut towers, trunk, and bumper bar.  The only significant damage is me-inflicted, as I had to cut holes through which to access rusty cradle nuts.

If you're up for an adventure in repair-land, you can have any piece back there which grabs you.

thx alot for the offer but i have close to no space for a big job like that ::)  but i would've liked to do this(it sounds like a fun experience :) )

from what my dad told me, i have to get an estimate of the car's value and of the repair cost.  and that, if the price to repair is more than my fiero's value (witch it is, do to ALOT of parts not installed and what-not) they take my car away and everything in it(i emptied it yesterday), this is all i uderstood from my dad.  he was supposed to bring it for the estimate this morning, but it's here now after school, so i dunno whats happening any more ??? .

I what to now all my options about the insurance(keep in mind i want to keep my fiero, fixed or not).... and i have intentions on buying an other one damaged(for lower cost) and fix it with mine.

thx for all the help
Alex

First; before you get that estimate make sure that the estimator (of the damage and value) is on the insurance company’s list of approved appraisers, otherwise you’ll have to do it twice.

Second; if your insurance company writes off the car you can still buy it back from them at a low cost (usually the cost of the tow and handling fees).  Ask them about it, but not before you have the appraisal.

i just checked with my dad, and belisle is, wihich is where we're bringing it.  and for sunday i'm going shopping for fieros in the morrisburg location and junkyards to see for some good parts.  and if anyone has a fullyfunctional(or that i could fix with my fiero) fiero(86-88) that would be cheap to buy, i might be interested.
