Title: attn' webmaster; can you modify "Notification" settings please!?!! Post by: fiero308 on January 12, 2005, 06:41:17 pm I wonder if it is possible that the notification gets turned OFF "ONLY WHEN A CERTAIN PERSON" puts up a posting; then gets turned ON again........??? what do you think. I am actually serious about this.
Looks like we are attracting attention from an ever-wider audience which brings ... well.... every sort with it; the good and the bad. So I get an email notification when some idiot puts up a stupid reply and then I check it only to find out it is yet another piece of brainless blabber. And it is pretty easy to sort out idiots; they identify themselves very quickly. So can the notification feature be filtered based on "certain selected persons" as a criteria? Every one could pick their own 'filters' of course. This would be a bonus for the people in the country who are on dial up too. They won't be downloading a thread that is a complete waste of their connect/phone time. Title: Re: attn' webmaster; can you modify "Notification" settings please!?!! ... Nick... Thought #1. What about the possibility of sending a notification each time a thread is replied to, instead of only for the first reply then no more until the user logs in and visits that thread? At least that way a user could ignore a reply notification from whomever they wanted, but still receive notices for later replies. Thought #2. Is there any kind of "ignore user" option available? Back when dial-up BBSs were popular (yes, I'm old), I maintained a "twit file" with my message reader. Basically anyone whom I identified as a twit was added to this file, and the reader would then hide any messages from them. I would still see that user XYZ posted a message in the overall sequence of the thread, but the content of that user's message was suppressed. Not sure what the forum software allows and what it doesn't, so I'm just tossing out ideas... Title: Re: attn' webmaster; can you modify "Notification" settings please!?!! LOL I'm going to have to be more SUBTLE, am I? ha ha; you are right, no doubt. Nice to think I am not the only one I guess. (PM to you re: alternator info, by the way) ;) but knowing who posted would probably dictate which messages get read and which can go to the trash right away and that might be helpful?!?!?! |
