Title: Supercharged 3.4 DOHC Post by: Meckanic on February 01, 2005, 03:42:24 pm Hi, I am in the middle of a 3.4 DOHC mod (and it's damn cold out there in my garage). I've managed to get the ECM from a 93 GTP standard tranny (and it's modifed for pressure in the hole), I have a pair of 95 GTP 3.4 DOHC's, modified 98 Grand Prix MAF (supercharger flavour), Corvette LS1 (80mm) throttle body, modified cams, 8:1 psitons and of course the M90 Eaton Supercharger (80mm) from a 98 Grand Prix that we modified to produce 22psi plus. Finally, I designed the plenum with 6 additional injectors and specialized waste gate controls. I started off originally with a 2.8 and modified that to give 227hp, but you know it just isn't enough. The 3.4 is being mated to the existing 5 speed Getrag which has new hardened gears and a kevlar blanket (as well as a kevlar firewall blanket, ballistic ejection can be a problem eh!). Has anyone ever attempted this kind of a conversion.. er insanity? If so let me know. It isn't anything like dropping in a 3.8 supercharged because of all the mods that have to take place. Also, if anyone else wants to try this, let me know as well. I know 3.4's can be a problem with the belts and the setting up little things like cams...lol, but personally, I would rather throw a belt than take a pushrod through the back of my head.

A couple of 3.4-specific questions for you: where did you get your cams modified and what specs did you decide on? Did you pick the specs or did some shop and if so, who? As far as I can tell nobody has actually GOT modified 3.4 cams yet (PFF or 60*6 etc) so this is a first!! the other item is what are you doing about con rods in particular (and maybe a crank, too)? The bottom end of the 3.4 is somewhat known (according to local wreckers, anyway) for opening 'side doors'. I don't know if it is the rods or the oiling system (pretty convoluted one at that) or the crank/bearings or all of the above. But good luck and keep us posted! :) Title: Re: Supercharged 3.4 DOHC Post by: Joe Fieroshop on February 01, 2005, 08:13:44 pm Show us some pic's O0, sounds like youe car is going to rock O0 keep us posted and hope to see it one day.
