Title: PayPal warning site
Post by: fiero308 on June 01, 2005, 08:25:17 am
just saw this; I know and have read countless stories about paypal in the past and of course the fees keep going up.
I don't know anything specific about this site or the stories but I do know that paypal has its OWN rules and it is NOT like using a charge card in any way; that you have to accept the rules and that means you have little or no recourse. I also have heard about 'out of country' problems (out of country meaning out of USA!!) with application of the rules etc.

You have little protection and it seems to hinge on the person/company you are dealing with. of course. So some people might want to have a look-see and consider some of this if they are going to deal with an unknown entity over the ethernet.....

Information is usually a good thing..... ::)

Basically, never let anyone have access to your bank account.  Also set up a seperate account for paypal transactions and only put in enough to cover any transactions in progress.  Never keep money in your paypal account, clean it out and just keep what you need when you send funds.

Use a charge card to pay for any purchases (like ebay).  Paypal, or EBay don't protect you, but VISA (etc) will go after fraudulent operators with a vengeance.

No agency will protect you...they just protect their own interests.  Cover your own butt!!!!.   >:D

I have in the past had problems with a major credit card. I had the credit slip in my hand from a company that they were "slow" to proccess. In calling the credit card company and going to the local bank they told me to take it up with the supplier. When I refused to pay, the credit card company were in denial. Don't be fooled. When you give out your credit card info it is just like cash and good luck sometimes. Problem was solved after a few months and I never dealt with Durrands again.
