Title: TOTD Club Project
Post by: aaron88 on June 14, 2005, 01:56:19 pm
Do we need a club project?

Something to get people involved, or maybe something that we can all put on our cars to identify them with the same improvement?

Maybe an Ottawa Fiero Club front bumper, or hood?

Something that won’t cost too much but will be cool and can get everyone involved.  Design, input, finance, abuse I mean test.

What about it?

I think it's a great idea.... my brain has be wandering in that direction lately too :)

Just a matter of figuring out what the project should be...

Sounds fun, and I'm all for it.   ...just don't ask me for any artistic input other than my opinion.  There's a reason why Kitten does the body work on all of the vehicles we own, and I don't.   ;)

As for ideas--how 'bout a OFC logo for a rear window, eyelid, etc.?  I had every intention of tracking down Stittsville Flea Market-based guy who did the half-disintegrated vinyl on the back window of Kitten's car & having a few more made, but the flea market closed up shop before I got that far down my to-do list.   :(

we can add that too but I think we need a bigger project.  That design can be done by one person in a short period of time.

we have a former club member who now drives a Mr.2....... he does vinyl stick-ons and has the whole setup for that.

If that is the way people want to go.
Hats? T shirts? something that we could wear at a meet or function? I know Gary did something on that at one time, didn't he?

I had the embroidery guy set up a design for the club to use.  I had a couple of jacket patches done and Dan has a Tshirt.  The store has since gone belly up.  It cost a fair chunk of change to set up and no one was willing to get anything made.   :'(

A small dash or fender badge would be cool if not too gaudy.

It would give Dan a change from the Mercedes and VW emblems he gets at the yards and hangs on a chain 'round his neck.... YO..YO, Dawg!    O0

I think it would be neat to design a unique hood vent or side scoop that only our guys would have.  Something maybe that would not alter your car and could be removed for the stock look easily.  Also maybe something we could send to Shaun to dyno.

*side scoop for intake (like the Holley scoop, but our design)
*sill plate with club logo
*club logo fire extinguishers (just need a group buy on unit + sticker)
*dash plaque or show display license plate
*hood vent (there are lots of spare hoods around to make a second so you can keep the stock one as well)
*club 'dog tags' or key fobs
*custom 3rd brake light (modified LED unit?)
*custom engine covers (2.5, 2.8, 3800..... hide some wires at shows)
*club logo metal 'mirror' for hood panel over engine
*club logo pad for centre console
*design club trunk covers (for displaying w/engine cover up)
*hand knitted club socks or scarves
*club toques
*club thongs (oops...)
*club tattoo (may be a bit extreme...  stick on ones?)   ::)
*custom centre caps for wheels (the centre badge)
*windshield banner (a bit overdone)
*club sponsored Mastercard  (I could use one)
*club rape whistles with supercharger whine sound
*small spray cans labelled anti-rice spray for mounting in-car
*saw a BMW with a small 'dorsal fin' (maybe antena pod)
*club roof wings
*Nitrous SUCKS T-shirts    ;)
*Everyone take pics, etc all summer and make up an album or CD

Okay, now I'm tired.......... next   >:D

I always thought we should have a club gang sign we could flash at each other.
I was thinking of mentioning the side scoop I made as a simple project that could be modified accordingly. The third brake light idea sounds neat what would you think of one of the plates that has our club name in it or something of the sort.

Dan has a Tshirt.
*club logo fire extinguishers (just need a group buy on unit + sticker)

*custom 3rd brake light (modified LED unit?)

*custom centre caps for wheels (the centre badge)

*Nitrous SUCKS T-shirts

Lets get a pic of the T'shirt from Dan--- club logo fire extinguishers is just what we DO NOT need --- *custom 3rd brake light (modified LED unit?) Excellent idea, put me down for 1 ---  *custom centre caps for wheels (the centre badge) I could use 4 ----LOVE THE GAS decal---- give me half a dozen.
Gary sure has lots of fresh ideas.

Well you won't get another T-shirt the same unless you want to front the 175.00 for set up  >:(  You had your chance at those and didn't get in. (still a bit bitter on that  one.)

All cars should have a fire extinguisher anyway, it's just the sticker that would be club oriented.  Do you not want to be able to rush over and put out that flaming Honda?

I'm going to make an external 3rd brake light that goes in the overhang of the coupe roof.  After seing two interior housings badly twisted from the heat of the bulb, I'd rather use LED.

If someone has a good printer that will do photo quality, the sticker badges and center caps should be a breeze.  It's just a matter of making the cap/badge out of ABS and using casting resin to set the picture in and give some depth.

I think you got the gas logo wrong  ::) for the shirt.

Did I miss something. Like it was offered before? :-[
Taled to Dan to get a pic of the shirt. His connection is too slow. Gary -- you have a pic?

I think I know where I can get use of a $10,000 printer for awhile ^-^
How about NITRO BLOWS (them away) T'shirt??

I really like the idea of body mods that are bolt on like hoods and side scoops but I'm partially prejudice because those are things I have to do anyway.

But I really want you guy’s and girls to think big.  What do you really want to do but can’t because there is too much work involved or you don’t have the specific expertise.  This is what having a lot of people involved is good for.  This could be something we are working on for a long time.  If it’s done right away then it’s like a one night stand, satisfying but leaving you with nothing to do the next day.

Think big, Like....it would take me two years to do that if I did it on my own big.

How about setting a club record by having all its member's cars on the road running at the same time for at least one meeting. Dan

You want big?  You want time consuming?

Kitten & I had a thought on our way home yesterday afternoon.

We build ourselves, from scratch, a 1:1, fully-detailed, model of a Fiero...

...out of lego.   :D

When I say detailed, I mean detailed.  Strength of building materials aside, someone looking at it should have the impression that they could sit in the driver's seat, mash the pedal & go.

boy
you sure can spot the people who don't have kids.
Do you know how MUCH that would cost? More than titanium, I'll bet.......... LOL
 ;)

We are hoarding our son's lego from years gone by. We $ank $o much into it that we are reluctant to see it go...........

I would guess that a seat would cost about $500 for materials alone........!!!

Actually there's a Lego knock-off on the shelves now, called MegaBlocs.  Same idea, better price.   O0

don't ask me how I know this

We could co-ordinate a tube frame design that's a direct swap?

Or make owr own front end clip like norms, only better.

or a bolt in interior kind of like the firbird one.

We don't have to invest and build the damn things we just have to design them.  Just enough to get the whole club involved for a good while.

well I never really cared for the dash...... and I do plan on swapping mine out...
so a custom dash that could be installed 'all by itself' ie wouldn't have to get into steering column mounts etc etc might be an idea. Fiberglass or sheet metal or alum; could be anything.

THAT being said, I am not a fan of working with f'glass (as in "anymore") having done it in the past. I did learn how and it did work out - I simply don't like the stuff that much. Fumes and sanding and so on.

I tend to prefer the firebird or Grand Am swap....... looks so good when the doors match it etc.

There. Have I been contradictory enough?
 :D

if I did go with a fiberglass dash it would be a covered dash so that we wouldn't have to worry at all about surface finnish, nor would we look cheep with our hard dashes.

Aaron

.
P.S. we would likely need a parts car for this though.

I'd be interested in a custom interior project too, especially if it eliminated those "ears" on the dash which everyone's knees like to slowly destroy.  ;)

...but adapting the interior from another car?  Nah.  I'd rather do 100% original.

Lego eh? I could probably contribute to that if Chris doesn't mind. People ask me what kind of floor covering I have and I say Lego. That stuff hurts when trod upon trying to sneak around the house in the wee hours.  Kevin
