Title: Antennas Post by: MacPhail on November 09, 2005, 03:28:32 pm One thing I hate about cars: Antennas. My Honda Element has a nice little stubby on the room and I see other foreign cars with the same.

I used a generic antenna cable extension combined with the cable from the OEM antenna, and ran a line up in to the roof skin. The cable runs under the dash, and up the right hand side a-pillar under the trim panel. The cable's shield is grounded to the frame somewhere above the passenger seat; the remainder of the cable run has had the shielding removed (but the core insulator left intact) and looped around the rear of the sunroof hole between the space frame and the roof skin. Works nicely; should be do-able in sunroof'd cars as well (mine isn't) but may require loosening of the roof skin studs in order to get the cable between the skin's sunroof frame and the space frame. :-\ Got photos at home, somewhere. I was wondering what one would do with the hole if there weren't any plans on repainting the car. Can you confirm that the bracket in the pic is the original stock bracket, and not an aftermarket one?? As promised, a photo of my method is attached. The photo is looking up from the driver's side, at the passenger side a-pillar & door frame. Bad lighting and ghosts from assembling a multi-shot panorama aside, you should be able to make out the cable snaking up the pillar. The yellow smudge where the cable changes from black to white is a ring terminal grounding the cable's shield to the frame. The white section is what the antenna cable looks like once the outer insulation & shield has been stripped. |
