Title: Side Vents Post by: MacPhail on April 11, 2006, 01:45:30 pm Has anybody ever vented the front sides of their Fiero, similar in fashion to those found on BMW's?
http://www.bmwmregistry.com/faq/M_roadster_sidegills.jpg Perhaps they would not be as effective at cooling as a roof vent. Thoughts? Cheers, Derek Title: Re: Side Vents Post by: FieroBUZZ on April 11, 2006, 01:52:44 pm Normal Fiero practice is to make a similar vent in the lower hood.
The BMW location would just vent your frunk. >:D Title: Re: Side Vents Post by: MacPhail on April 12, 2006, 01:25:27 pm Normal Fiero practice is to make a similar vent in the lower hood. The BMW location would just vent your frunk. >:D Why be "normal"? O0 The "frunk" contains the same heat that the lower hood vents deal with...or so I would assume having never actually sat in the frunk to see for myself (I'm not a Bandido). :p It may not do the job as effectively as the lower hood vents, but it may work nonetheless...right? O0 Trust me, Not Buzz is not normal as evidenced by the chromatics of his engine bay. :P Quote The "frunk" contains the same heat that the lower hood vents deal with...or so I would assume having never actually sat in the frunk to see for myself Not really. Traditional hood vents are placed in the area between the frunk and the radiator, allowing some of the air which has passed through the radiator to exit upward over the hood instead of forcing it all down and under the chassis. The frunk OTOH, is an odd-shaped box which is loosely sealed from the elements. Hot air from the radiator does not pass through it. Venting the frunk may lessen the chance of your spare tire and brake master cylinder suffering from oxygen starvation, but that's about it. :) Quote It may not do the job as effectively as the lower hood vents, but it may work nonetheless...right? If your purpose for adding vents to the frunk is for heat dissipation, I suspect that you'll be disappointed with the result. Title: Re: Side Vents Post by: MacPhail on April 12, 2006, 02:36:43 pm Ok...so the side vents won't work.
But what you are saying is that venting the frunk will be beneficial if I wanted to transport really tiny people in it? :D Cheers, Derek Title: Re: Side Vents Post by: MacPhail on April 12, 2006, 04:11:52 pm Buzz...care to share some pics of the chrome? :)
