Bear in mind that the belt in the pic is too long and is just slightly tight as the alternator is just sitting in place. Do you think that the run from supercharger to alt to crank pulley would be okay. Will it be tight enough for the s/c pulley not to slip and also not too long to cause the belt to be thrown off. Same run but an extra idler added to that long run. Necessary or just too much concern on my part? Put it this way... more wrap now while the engine's out is pain-free, and lessens the chances of it slipping. Less wrap now may mean you have to re-do it. I think you have lots of belt wrap (on both top and bottom pulleys) in Option 1; it is more than 1/2 the pulley and I think you are only gaining another degree or two with the extra idler pulley. The tension in the belt will be the same all the way around so you don't gain/lose anything there. It LOOKS like it is missing something, yes, but I think this is where you have to 'go with the numbers'.... so to speak. What do you hope to gain or what is it you are trying to avoid with the extra pulley? Look at how LITTLE wrap you have on some of them; and that is doing the job. I think both of these may be slightly less than the stock 2 belt setup. The w/p doesn't need much as it is pretty low resistance.
I have to make a small 2 or 3 prong fitting for the new idler. That's the only work I'd save and maybe only temporarily at that. I think I'll redo the coil packs in the stock location. That means I can extend the bolts a bit and have the mount run there. With the crossover and the manifold wrapped I don't think heat will be an issue with the coils. The small space saving of sticking them in the old battery spot is not worth the effort right now. ^-^ |
