There's an '84 Fiero with a 3800SC sitting beside it that need to be married up and tested on the road.  Such nice weather demands it!   ;)  It sucks having to take the Blazer to work (no offence to anyone who has a Blazer...it's that I, like the rest of you, would rather be in a Fiero).

Just kidding about rushing you!  I'm just feeling really good about you putting the engine in my car and how AWESOME it is going to be when it's back on the road.  As much as my wife may frown upon it, I know she also sees how much enjoyment I get out of this...I'm sure I'm like a kid waiting for Santa Claus.   :D

I bought it 'cause the price was right (and my wife made me...you can read another thread on that here somewhere).   :D

Thankfully, we also have a Honda Element, so cars breaking down don't affect my ability to get to work (except when they happen along the way).   :P

PS  The only problem with my Blazer is that it is hard to get the key out of the ignition..have to play around with the shifter for a few minutes some times.

Engine part of the harness is completed along with the nounting brackets. Getting ready to mount onto the cradle but having a hard time finding a cradle strong enough. Any one know of a good cradle available. Dan

Just dropped off my old spoiler (the snow shovel) to Dan today also, I had it repainted for you to match the current blue earlier in the week.  We spent some time removing the luggage rack tonight, and should be able to mount it tomorrow for you. 

I guess the only problem now is that the first test drive will have to be over at the Mountainview AFB, cause that wing's gonna give you too much lift for normal roads :)

If I lived in North Bay still, that snow shovel spoiler would come in handy if mounted with some sort of quick release mechanism that would allow me to pop it off and attach it to a hockey in order to get the car in and out of the driveway.  ;)

Good actually.  I went up to Ottawa to look for a job, and I've ended up getting a job in Toronto while I was there.  :)  Which means one paycheque from now I'll be searching for my next Fiero.  >:D

Gave up the search and got the one brought down professionally welded and reinforced. Was able to salvage lower control arms and the rear cradle bushings now just need a set of new front cradle bushings. Any one know if they are still available or will I have to drive all the way to Toronto to get poly ones. Dan

As far as I know they are still available.  Ordered some last summer thru my local dealer, don't have the p/ns handy but they should be able to look them up in the computer.

Good boy. Did you want me to get a K&N filter and mount it the same way as on my car. Plus did some measuring looks a little too tight for mounting the battery under the headlight damn coupe bumpers. So do you want me to mount the battery in with the spare tire area. Plus do you want the same muffler used as I have with the others or is it too loud for you that way. Dan

Typing with 1 hand today...cut the tendon on my finger removing tiles yesterday.   :'(  Have to wear a splint to allow the stitches to keep the tendon together..kind of like to be able to use my finger still!

The actual description I believe is engine cradle mount bushings or some thing like that. Now you would think some one so capable as to be able to blow up a nice engine like a duke would have the sense to make sure the fuel tank is empty when he does it. Just removed one very heavy almost full fuel tank. Dan

The car was supposedly "fixed" when the belt was replaced...as such, I got gas 'cause it was empty and I had to drive back to Kingston.

Looking over the radiator in your nice little Fiero. No leaks as of yet but not the healthiest looking one I have ever seen. Did you want me to try and find a better used one or did you want to buy your self a new one. Dan

Should I be putting a bigger one in with the larger engine? 

A better used one would be good (unless the price difference between used and new is such that I should just go new).

Also..should I be considering transmission (& transmission oil) coolers?

Any automatic Fiero v-6 rad has a cooler built in.  Most guys are running them and don't seem to have trouble.

Definitely reccomend a tranny cooler and a good used rad usually goes for around $50, I know where a V6 is that was rear end damaged by fire will get the rad from it. Your two rear metal brake lines are now new due to the old ones breaking off while removing the old engine. Engine and tranny are now bolted to the cradle the struts are in place and the brakes back together. Entire set up is laying about 4 inches below its bolt points waiting for the cradle mount bushings. Once they arrive the car will be back on its wheels again. Dan

Well, I took one off and replaced it.........and took that off and replced it........wore out the captive nuts and the door no longer has anything to bolt to.  Of course, the spot the captive nuts are supposed to be is behind a welded support beam.

I forgot to mention that I suspect when I get the hinge plates welded to the frame something inside will undoubtedly catch fire.

Gary is just way to much of an optomist to be a Fiero owner. Will get the rad and see if I can find a good tranny cooler while I am at it. Have to take the wife up to Kingston today to see a doctor so I will hit the wreckers there and a few on the way home. Then the real fun part begins running new larger tranny lines, always leave a little part of me behind in the way of skin off my knuckles when doing this part. Dan

It's one of the laws of Fieros.  No maintenance or modification task is complete without at least a small blood donation.   ;)

Did Joe say when and how he would be shipping the mount bushings as I find myself sitting here waiting for a delivery truck of some kind. Lots of work left but needing car on its own four wheels for a while to do it. Dan

I think mine were $150 plus tax last year when I got them.  Helped remove the bumb steering problems I had, definetely a lot better than the stock rubber ones. If you want to cancel the order I can solid mount the front and use the stock rears. Dan

May as well upgrade where possible (and feasible).  All the better for carrying around a Lambo body a few years down the road from now.   :D

The last time I purchased a set of poly cradle bushings from the Fiero Store the US<->CAN exchange rate was closer to 80c on the dollar, and I still paid less than $110 CDN after the exchange and border fees.

Bough some from www.suspension.com, came up to approx $70Can including shipping. They are 56$US.  Phone number is 1-800-291-5340 and the part number for 84-87 fiero is 7.502.

Ok before I go ordering some parts I need comfirmation on the approval to purchase them. The muffler I suggest is a magnaflow with one 2.5" i/p and two 2.5" o/p's which sound nice and fit quite well they are around $180 cdn. The exhaust pipes run around $75 cdn for the whole system. The aif fliter I suggest is a K&N which is 3" dia and fits in the wheel well but costs around $70 cdn. I found a good rad and tranny cooler for $65. These are normal costs on a swap of this kind. I do not charge labour for installing but I do not cover the cost of the parts. If you like I can try and find a decent Camaro muffler for cheaper or use a cheaper air filer but do not reccomend that route. Please let me know Dan

Go for it.  I was watching Overhaulin' last night and it was a Magnaflow that Foosse put on a tuned Civic.

Will the rear bumper accommodate the dual exhaust?  Will you have to cut the trunk out for the muffler?

Yes the bottom part of the trunk has to go to run that muffler. This would be a good time to put a GT style rear bumper back on when I put it all back together. It won't be blue but it will allow for proper running of dual exhaust. If not I can just run the tail pipes a little lower and point them down to help keep the heat off of the bumper.
This is going to be one nice safe Fiero when its done, I am welding new metal over all the holes I found in the trunk and wheel wells as well as replacing badly rusted brake lines and front flex lines as one of the flex lines cracked open when I took the caliper off to remove the cradle. Good thing I have lots of Fieo parts laying around looking for some where to go. Dan

The question to be asked is 'does it have a lime green engine compartment?' The only true measure of a great Fiero.   O0

Lets see here... new rear bumper.  Then you'll need a new front bumper, the rest of the GT trim on the sides, some hood vents and a decklid scoop. (I've got the spoiler covered for you, of course ;))  Plus a paint job.  Might as well throw in some Mr. Mikes seats, assorted gauges, a window tint and a 6-speed tranny swap too while you're at it.

I pity your bank balance :)

I can put almost any tip on as long as it fits in the area cut out on the bumber. Having a hard time getting a hold of the local speed shop it seems they moved the business to their home and no one ever wants to answer the phone. Is there a speed shop in Kingston thats any good. If so I could give you the part numbers and you could get them there. Dan

Found the part numbers if you can get them I will drive up to pick them up once they come in. The filter is a K&N part number KNRF1023. The muffler is a Magnaflow part number 12158 its a 5"X8" oval with one 2.5" i/p and two 2.5" o/p's its over all length is 20" with a body length of 14"s. I used to use Camaro replacement mufflers but find this one being 4" shorter is a better fitting one and is only slightly louder. Dan

Inlet looks just under 2.5, but they can be cut and welded at the point where they are 2.5"

Outlets are each 3.5" o.d.  They are fairly big but you'll have the grunt to back up the claim to power.   ::)

I know for the filter last one I got cost $73.60 including all taxes. The muffler is also available through CND tire but they are more expensive and take weeks to get. Indypacecar or what ever sean's name here is also is in need of a K&N filter maybe the two together will get the price down a bit. Dan

Here in Kingston we do.  They're called half-way houses and are usually located near schools for some strange reason.  This is Canada:  We don't want to make it to hard for murderers and pedophiles to re-offend.   >:(

Once again I am being insulted for no apparent reason by that mean old guy. Guess seeing as his car still is not running I should just ignore him.
Learned one thing this afternoon and that is do not ever get hurt in Prince Edward county. Some foolish people in a shiny red Cavalier went off the road just about a 100 yards from my house took out a telephone pole and landed on its roof in the field killing a small tree. From time of accident it took over 20 minutes for the cops to arrive and 45 minutes for the ambulance. Then they block off my road for over 2 hours while they clean up and remove the wreckage. Dan

Well lets see the road was blocked off and my daughter was escorted off her buss by an OPP officer and told to go straight into the house and not too look as it was very bad, plus I couldn't see through the trees very well so I spent most of the time keeping Harley from trying to go bite the cops.
One good thing is a couple of guys stopped in a white Fiero asking questions about all the Fiero's in my drive way, turns out they do Lambo kits and have been looking for some one to do 3800SC engine harnesses, so I may get a few builds out of it all. Dan

Lets see that would be page nine not cloud nine and I would see about getting that rash cleared up before your wife gets back and asks what you did while she was gone. The weather is definetely strange as well as the number of mosquito's out there.
Went down the road and looked it over seems that the Cavalier lost control coming around the corner clipped the shoulder got back on road almost hit head on a car coming the other way and then went off the road. Took out the telephone clean as it could be rolled over and slid on the roof taking out a couple more trees till coming to a stop on top of the last tree still upside down. Total distance from first point where he touched the shoulder till car came to a rest is about 200 yards. He must of been moving pretty fast to do that much damage to both the car and the landscape. Not sure how serious the injuries were but some one left in the ambulance, there was a black tarp over the drivers door when they pulled it from the ditch but that may have been used to help the people get out without getting all cut up from the broken glass every where. Shows just how dangerous those little cars are, most wreckers are full of smashed up Cavaliers and Sunfires. Dan

Maybe it isn't the car but rather the people that tend to drive them (younger, and if they're driving fast, male).

I do not use synthetic fluids but if you want to run them buy some and I will put them in for you. Also remember to get the oil filter for synthetic oils if you want to use the oil. Dan

Ok now coolant is burped its ready for a test drive, is there insurance on it so its legal for me to test drive her. Also which headlight was it that didn't work and did you want me to get a 6 cyl tach so 1 the tach will read accurately and 2 it has an oil pressure gauge instead of a volt meter. I found a nice top to your bad driver's seat at the wreckerts did you want that dealt with while its here as well. Dan

There's insurance on her.

The driver's side headlight is the one that stayed up (both were unplugged...not sure if it is a relay or a motor).

Yes to the tach (Modified Message:  Nothing fancy...I'd like to redo the interior down the road including the dash and I'll include a tach then as well).

The lovely cover on the seat will do for the time being.  I'm thinking about trying my hand at sewing some new seat covers this winter (with lots of help from my wife).  :)

Ok ran out of headlight motors to try so gave up on that. Took her for a drive works real nice decent power or at least a lot more than the duke had when the car arrived here. So just check her over one last time and shes done ready for Derecks abuse I mean for his poor driving no thats not right. I know the car is all ready for Dereck to drive and enjoy. Total damage left is last half of labour plus an extra $289.17 in extra parts so total left owing is $1,289 I will not worry about the 17 cents. When would you like to pick up your car Sir. Dan

Looks like, after a quick read, that the challenge is to get the new covers "tight" on the seat.

That said, it looks like it could be fun.  :)
