Title: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: MacPhail on May 10, 2006, 06:04:25 pm There's an '84 Fiero with a 3800SC sitting beside it that need to be married up and tested on the road. Such nice weather demands it! ;) It sucks having to take the Blazer to work (no offence to anyone who has a Blazer...it's that I, like the rest of you, would rather be in a Fiero).
Just kidding about rushing you! I'm just feeling really good about you putting the engine in my car and how AWESOME it is going to be when it's back on the road. As much as my wife may frown upon it, I know she also sees how much enjoyment I get out of this...I'm sure I'm like a kid waiting for Santa Claus. :D Cheers, Derek Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: FieroBUZZ on May 10, 2006, 07:24:25 pm You guys.......... :'( ^-^ O0
BTW, anyone who buys a POS like a Blazer or Jimmy needs a brain scan. Mine is an electrical nightmare. Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: MacPhail on May 10, 2006, 08:30:11 pm Hey! My Blazer is my winter vehicle!
I bought it 'cause the price was right (and my wife made me...you can read another thread on that here somewhere). :D Thankfully, we also have a Honda Element, so cars breaking down don't affect my ability to get to work (except when they happen along the way). :P Cheers, Derek PS The only problem with my Blazer is that it is hard to get the key out of the ignition..have to play around with the shifter for a few minutes some times. Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: 2ML67 on May 10, 2006, 08:35:51 pm Well lets see just got the 3800SC engine home this afternoon, started the harness and did a little painting. Dan
Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: MacPhail on May 10, 2006, 08:37:48 pm Painting?! :)
Just make sure it doesn't come out looking like a Montreal Canadians jersey...wouldn't want Frenchie to get jealous. >:D Cheers, Derek Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: 2ML67 on May 10, 2006, 08:44:16 pm How's this for starters. Dan

Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: Bradtholomew on May 12, 2006, 09:06:10 pm Just dropped off my old spoiler (the snow shovel) to Dan today also, I had it repainted for you to match the current blue earlier in the week. We spent some time removing the luggage rack tonight, and should be able to mount it tomorrow for you.
I guess the only problem now is that the first test drive will have to be over at the Mountainview AFB, cause that wing's gonna give you too much lift for normal roads :) Heh, just kidding of course. Or am I? ;) Brad Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: FieroBUZZ on May 12, 2006, 09:18:59 pm Gee, you guys know how to get a guy depressed..... >:(

We spent some time removing the luggage rack tonight, and should be able to mount it tomorrow for you. Brad...you're scaring me! If I lived in North Bay still, that snow shovel spoiler would come in handy if mounted with some sort of quick release mechanism that would allow me to pop it off and attach it to a hockey in order to get the car in and out of the driveway. ;) Cheers, Derek PS How's the job hunt coming along? I can't believe the Sens fell behind and trail 3 - 1. :'( Cheers, Derek Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: Bradtholomew on May 12, 2006, 10:23:20 pm PS How's the job hunt coming along? Good actually. I went up to Ottawa to look for a job, and I've ended up getting a job in Toronto while I was there. :) Which means one paycheque from now I'll be searching for my next Fiero. >:D Brad Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: MacPhail on May 12, 2006, 10:25:57 pm Congrats Brad!
Guess you'll be too good, becoming a Toronto person and all, to hang with us Ottawa/Eastern Ontario folks. :P Cheers, Derek Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: Bradtholomew on May 12, 2006, 10:38:25 pm Heh, naw... I'll be around still. My buddy in Ottawa there just got a new 42" plasma TV to go with his Xbox 360. I'll definitely be around. haha

Post by: 2ML67 on May 14, 2006, 01:59:08 pm Gave up the search and got the one brought down professionally welded and reinforced. Was able to salvage lower control arms and the rear cradle bushings now just need a set of new front cradle bushings. Any one know if they are still available or will I have to drive all the way to Toronto to get poly ones. Dan
Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: Gizmo on May 14, 2006, 02:55:30 pm As far as I know they are still available. Ordered some last summer thru my local dealer, don't have the p/ns handy but they should be able to look them up in the computer.

Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: MacPhail on May 15, 2006, 12:08:16 pm I've left them a message asking they call me back ASAP.
Cheers, Derek Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: 2ML67 on May 15, 2006, 12:23:22 pm Good boy. Did you want me to get a K&N filter and mount it the same way as on my car. Plus did some measuring looks a little too tight for mounting the battery under the headlight damn coupe bumpers. So do you want me to mount the battery in with the spare tire area. Plus do you want the same muffler used as I have with the others or is it too loud for you that way. Dan
Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: MacPhail on May 15, 2006, 12:52:01 pm Typing with 1 hand today...cut the tendon on my finger removing tiles yesterday. :'( Have to wear a splint to allow the stitches to keep the tendon together..kind of like to be able to use my finger still!
Yes to everything. :) Still waiting for the call back about the bushings..must be on lunch. Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: 2ML67 on May 15, 2006, 02:02:05 pm The actual description I believe is engine cradle mount bushings or some thing like that. Now you would think some one so capable as to be able to blow up a nice engine like a duke would have the sense to make sure the fuel tank is empty when he does it. Just removed one very heavy almost full fuel tank. Dan

Just removed one very heavy almost full fuel tank. Dan The car was supposedly "fixed" when the belt was replaced...as such, I got gas 'cause it was empty and I had to drive back to Kingston. Next time I blow up an engine - and NOT this one - I'll consider my gas situation first. O0 Cheers, Derek PS Joe is sick today..he'll call me tomorrow and get the bushings sent out from his stock. Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: MacPhail on May 17, 2006, 05:29:19 pm Should I be putting a bigger one in with the larger engine?
A better used one would be good (unless the price difference between used and new is such that I should just go new). Also..should I be considering transmission (& transmission oil) coolers? Cheers, Derek Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: FieroBUZZ on May 17, 2006, 06:33:28 pm Any automatic Fiero v-6 rad has a cooler built in. Waiting for Dan to post about the good part he found on the car. >:D Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: MacPhail on May 17, 2006, 06:48:11 pm Waiting for Dan to post about the good part he found on the car. >:D Ditto! :-[ Fortunately, it will be well on its way to being a great car, thanks to Dan. Cheers, Derek PS He did have nice things to say about the tires. O0 Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: 2ML67 on May 17, 2006, 08:07:45 pm Definitely reccomend a tranny cooler and a good used rad usually goes for around $50, I know where a V6 is that was rear end damaged by fire will get the rad from it. Your two rear metal brake lines are now new due to the old ones breaking off while removing the old engine. Engine and tranny are now bolted to the cradle the struts are in place and the brakes back together. Entire set up is laying about 4 inches below its bolt points waiting for the cradle mount bushings. Once they arrive the car will be back on its wheels again. Dan
Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: MacPhail on May 17, 2006, 08:24:19 pm The used rad sounds good to me.

Of course, the spot the captive nuts are supposed to be is behind a welded support beam.
Hey, it could happen to anyone..... right? :( Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: FieroBUZZ on May 17, 2006, 09:17:11 pm I forgot to mention that I suspect when I get the hinge plates welded to the frame something inside will undoubtedly catch fire.

Post by: 2ML67 on May 18, 2006, 07:26:28 am Gary is just way to much of an optomist to be a Fiero owner. Will get the rad and see if I can find a good tranny cooler while I am at it. Have to take the wife up to Kingston today to see a doctor so I will hit the wreckers there and a few on the way home. Then the real fun part begins running new larger tranny lines, always leave a little part of me behind in the way of skin off my knuckles when doing this part. Dan

Ok...there was a miscommunication as he sent them via regular mail. :'( Sorry 'bout that Dan. Cheers, Derek PS Just got off the phone - they called back to ask for the billing address - and they said it came to $184 with shipping. Does that sound right??? Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: Bradtholomew on May 18, 2006, 05:18:24 pm $184? Damn. I was in Toronto a couple days ago too, I could've picked 'em up for ya. D'oh...
I'd just drive there for that cost. Hell, I picked up a set of lowering springs from Joe a couple years ago using public transit, now that's a lot of fun! Brad Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: 2ML67 on May 18, 2006, 08:26:12 pm I think mine were $150 plus tax last year when I got them. I guess you pay for "speedy" delivery. :-\ The last time I purchased a set of poly cradle bushings from the Fiero Store the US<->CAN exchange rate was closer to 80c on the dollar, and I still paid less than $110 CDN after the exchange and border fees. Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: lacelles on May 19, 2006, 09:50:16 am Bough some from www.suspension.com, came up to approx $70Can including shipping. Post by: 2ML67 on May 19, 2006, 02:20:50 pm Ok before I go ordering some parts I need comfirmation on the approval to purchase them. The muffler I suggest is a magnaflow with one 2.5" i/p and two 2.5" o/p's which sound nice and fit quite well they are around $180 cdn. The exhaust pipes run around $75 cdn for the whole system. The aif fliter I suggest is a K&N which is 3" dia and fits in the wheel well but costs around $70 cdn. I found a good rad and tranny cooler for $65. These are normal costs on a swap of this kind. I do not charge labour for installing but I do not cover the cost of the parts. If you like I can try and find a decent Camaro muffler for cheaper or use a cheaper air filer but do not reccomend that route. Please let me know Dan

I was watching Overhaulin' last night and it was a Magnaflow that Foosse put on a tuned Civic. Will the rear bumper accommodate the dual exhaust? Will you have to cut the trunk out for the muffler? Cheers, Derek Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: 2ML67 on May 19, 2006, 08:01:27 pm Yes the bottom part of the trunk has to go to run that muffler. This would be a good time to put a GT style rear bumper back on when I put it all back together. It won't be blue but it will allow for proper running of dual exhaust. If not I can just run the tail pipes a little lower and point them down to help keep the heat off of the bumper.
This is going to be one nice safe Fiero when its done, I am welding new metal over all the holes I found in the trunk and wheel wells as well as replacing badly rusted brake lines and front flex lines as one of the flex lines cracked open when I took the caliper off to remove the cradle. Good thing I have lots of Fieo parts laying around looking for some where to go. Dan Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: 2ML67 on May 20, 2006, 09:20:53 am Found the part numbers if you can get them I will drive up to pick them up once they come in. The filter is a K&N part number KNRF1023. The muffler is a Magnaflow part number 12158 its a 5"X8" oval with one 2.5" i/p and two 2.5" o/p's its over all length is 20" with a body length of 14"s. I used to use Camaro replacement mufflers but find this one being 4" shorter is a better fitting one and is only slightly louder. Dan

Stalker Performance: 12158 139.99 retail yours at 119.99 KNRF1023 yours at 59.99 and the following as well Mike at No Limits Auto Parts: My normal pricing on the Magnaflow is $119.00, avalability is not a problem. But I am setting up a group buy on magnaflow on the OQCGP.com board as we speak, as long as I have 10 unit's total sold, I can get the muffler down to $89.00. K&N RF1023 is $53.00.If we are doing a few, should be able to knock that down a bit more. Anytime you can organize a couple people buying from the same manufacturer, I can usually setup a bigger discount. Send me a pm with a complete list, quantity and part number's, and I'll see what I can do for pricing, incase the group buy does not go through from the other board. Mike Mike is a really nice guy and usually has excellent pricing. They also have a machine shop and can do most fabrication work. Gary Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: MacPhail on May 20, 2006, 01:35:46 pm How do I go about ordering these parts (especially the muffler for a group purchase?).
Cheers, Derek Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: MacPhail on May 20, 2006, 01:52:40 pm I have a pair of DTM tips like this if you are interested. I would trade for a couple of very good GP or whatever oval tips. Gary 2.5" inlet? Are they 3.5" outlet? Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: FieroBUZZ on May 20, 2006, 02:10:39 pm I'll measure them and get a pic. They're pretty big but do look okay in the openings.
Mike is at No Limits Auto Parts 1417-C Cyrville Rd Ottawa, ON (613) 748-7278 He's probably still there if you give him a shout for the details. I'll need to get one as well. If you are going to run a cat, he can get a cheap universal for you. It looks like the Grand Prix group buy is open till 20 June. I don't know if that means no order till then or not. Outlets are each 3.5" o.d. They are fairly big but you'll have the grunt to back up the claim to power. ::) Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: 2ML67 on May 20, 2006, 05:57:09 pm I know for the filter last one I got cost $73.60 including all taxes. The muffler is also available through CND tire but they are more expensive and take weeks to get. Indypacecar or what ever sean's name here is also is in need of a K&N filter maybe the two together will get the price down a bit. Dan

As for the filter...what a nightmare! RF-1023. That's what I told them. Do you think it was on the shelves? No. Out back? No. IN THE COMPUTER SYSTEM? No! So they said "We'll order you this (Part 332046-0410123) and if that isn't it, we won't charge you the 20% restocking fee. Frig. I'm going to print off the part from the K&N site and bring it in to show them what I want. No offence to the owners (especially if you know them!), but after having watched "Jeepers Creepers" last night and then seeing the number, I couldn't help but wonder if there were bodies in the basement. :o There's just something about that place?! They're called half-way houses and are usually located near schools for some strange reason. This is Canada: We don't want to make it to hard for murderers and pedophiles to re-offend. >:( I'll pass on sporting the sticker as I'll likely be getting the windows tinted. Post by: 2ML67 on May 30, 2006, 05:26:21 pm Once again I am being insulted for no apparent reason by that mean old guy. Guess seeing as his car still is not running I should just ignore him.
Learned one thing this afternoon and that is do not ever get hurt in Prince Edward county. Some foolish people in a shiny red Cavalier went off the road just about a 100 yards from my house took out a telephone pole and landed on its roof in the field killing a small tree. From time of accident it took over 20 minutes for the cops to arrive and 45 minutes for the ambulance. Then they block off my road for over 2 hours while they clean up and remove the wreckage. Dan Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: FieroBUZZ on May 30, 2006, 07:04:20 pm edit to remove cruel comments.
Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: 2ML67 on May 30, 2006, 07:30:47 pm Well lets see the road was blocked off and my daughter was escorted off her buss by an OPP officer and told to go straight into the house and not too look as it was very bad, plus I couldn't see through the trees very well so I spent most of the time keeping Harley from trying to go bite the cops.
One good thing is a couple of guys stopped in a white Fiero asking questions about all the Fiero's in my drive way, turns out they do Lambo kits and have been looking for some one to do 3800SC engine harnesses, so I may get a few builds out of it all. Dan Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: MacPhail on May 31, 2006, 02:46:14 pm Lambo kits? Just the doors or the whole deal?

Post by: MacPhail on May 31, 2006, 04:29:23 pm Notice: Starting new topics is permitted as of now........ ;) Ahhhhhh? :'( I wanted to see a 9 page thread! Hey. How 'bout this weather?! Looks like it's gonna storm. Hurricanes or Sabres? I'd love to see Buffalo vs Edmonton for the Stanley Cup. Ever get a rash that simply won't go away? :D Cheers, Derek Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: 2ML67 on May 31, 2006, 04:40:34 pm Lets see that would be page nine not cloud nine and I would see about getting that rash cleared up before your wife gets back and asks what you did while she was gone. The weather is definetely strange as well as the number of mosquito's out there.
Went down the road and looked it over seems that the Cavalier lost control coming around the corner clipped the shoulder got back on road almost hit head on a car coming the other way and then went off the road. Took out the telephone clean as it could be rolled over and slid on the roof taking out a couple more trees till coming to a stop on top of the last tree still upside down. Total distance from first point where he touched the shoulder till car came to a rest is about 200 yards. He must of been moving pretty fast to do that much damage to both the car and the landscape. Dan Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: MacPhail on May 31, 2006, 05:57:39 pm Was it a fatal crash?
Cheers, Derek Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: 2ML67 on May 31, 2006, 07:50:12 pm Not sure how serious the injuries were but some one left in the ambulance, there was a black tarp over the drivers door when they pulled it from the ditch but that may have been used to help the people get out without getting all cut up from the broken glass every where. Shows just how dangerous those little cars are, most wreckers are full of smashed up Cavaliers and Sunfires. Dan

Post by: FieroBUZZ on June 07, 2006, 09:24:32 am No Gary I am not that stupid I was pretty sure it was the driver's headlight so I replaced it now the passenger's wont go down. Damn 84-86 headlights. Dan Cranky? :'( That's the law of toyland. The one you fix is always the good one. Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: 2ML67 on June 07, 2006, 10:57:54 am Ok ran out of headlight motors to try so gave up on that. Took her for a drive works real nice decent power or at least a lot more than the duke had when the car arrived here. So just check her over one last time and shes done ready for Derecks abuse I mean for his poor driving no thats not right. I know the car is all ready for Dereck to drive and enjoy. Total damage left is last half of labour plus an extra $289.17 in extra parts so total left owing is $1,289 I will not worry about the 17 cents. When would you like to pick up your car Sir. Dan

That said, it looks like it could be fun. :) Cheers, Derek Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Dan I don't mind the lights being up. Thanks for trying though. It was definitely the motors and not the relays or fuses? "Decent power". What needs to be done next for awesome, fly by the seat of your pants, power? >:D She will be enjoyed and cared for...I promise! Brad...when did you want that ride to Ottawa? Cheers, Derek Title: Re: Dan...stopped playing on the Net and get back to work! Post by: MacPhail on June 07, 2006, 11:34:22 am Is anyone travelling through Kingston and heading to/past Belleville???
With my wife away and a complete lack of friends to call upon, getting out there tonight (which is when I'd like to pick up the blue thingy as I'm DYING to drive it) will be a challenge. I'll see what I can do about getting there tonight (after I walk the dogs...won't make it there until around 7:00 at the earliest). Post by: Bradtholomew on June 07, 2006, 10:56:36 pm Brad...when did you want that ride to Ottawa? Hah, I was just kidding. I would like to head back up, but it usually just ends up with me sitting around drinking at my friends pub (he's a bartender at Woodys on Elgin) instead of looking for jobs. Speaking of which, know anyone hiring? :) Enjoy the new car. I rode my bike by the train station probably just before you got there, missed the blue monster though.
