Title: Puzzle Post by: dguy on August 10, 2006, 02:52:29 pm 3 men go into a motel. The man behind the desk said the room is $30, so each man paid $10 and went to the room.
A while later the man behind the desk realized the room was only $25, so he sent the bellboy to the 3 guys' room with $5. On the way the bellboy couldn't figure out how to split $5 evenly bhetween 3 men, so he gave each man $1 and kept the other $2 for himself. This meant that the 3 men each paid $9 for the room, which is a total of $27. Add the $2 that the bellboy kept brings the total to $29. Where is the other dollar? . . . . Damn government accounting. The trick is to follow the money. $30 in the till. Split that to $25 till and $5 bellboy, split again to $25 till, $1 (x3) to the guys, and $2 bellboy. 25+1+1+1+2=30 Tada! Working backwards the other way is like trying to figure out why you're on the couch by reconstructing the argument with the wife :D Title: Re: Puzzle Post by: c-l on August 12, 2006, 04:58:59 pm ... trying to figure out why you're on the couch by reconstructing the argument with the wife :D Buzz, you've got this issue solved... Now, do you think that you can give me pointers as to how to stop reconstructing the argument with the wife ? I've been having nightmare and waking up with cold sweats ever since Rob posted his 87 GT for sales ;) Mind you, taking a ride in Stephane's car last week did not help reduce my adrenaline rush... That's the trick right there, smooth writing makes you forget about math class. Don't forget your math! Aaron . |
