Title: Music.............. What's Yours? Post by: FieroBUZZ on December 30, 2006, 10:01:10 am A local radio station asked people to send in their 20 favourite songs of all time. Pretty hard to do, as the list flip flops often, but have a stab at it.
I'll post mine later so as not to influence your listing with the correct songs. >:D Almost time to try to redo those cd's for the car (not that car). O0 Think of 20 songs you just have to have on that desert island. Title: Re: Music.............. What's Yours? Post by: MacPhail on December 30, 2006, 04:40:53 pm Interesting topic for the "mods" section. :P

What's Yours? Post by: MacPhail on December 30, 2006, 09:00:10 pm Interesting that you have Gimme Shelter as the top song from the Stones. I was leaning towards Sympathy for the Devil, but find that Guns'n'Roses have a better version of it; however, they were already on my list. Heck, the whole Appetite for Destruction album could be on the list for that matter!
The Tragically Un-Hip? :o I HATE The Hip! Way over played and overrated here in Kingston ("The Home of the Hip" as K-Rock 105.7 claims) if you ask me. When The Hip come on - or Rob Baker doing something to promote the downtown arena disaster - I change the station. Matthew Good has also been over played - an excellent artist, but too much air time (must be those damn Canadian content rules). Deep Purple - good choice. Lot's of songs of theirs to pick from. Rush - I would have went with Closer to the Heart probably. Other songs that come to mind for a Top 20 list include: Show Must Go On - Queen Heavy Metal - Sammy Haggar Cum On Feel The Noize - Quiet Riot Rock of Ages - Def Leppard Love Song - Tesla Silent Lucidity - Queensryche Kickstart My Heart - Motley Crue The Man Who Sold the World - Nirvana Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd We're Not Gonna Take It - Twisted Sister Come Out and Play - Offspring Hurt - Nine Inch Nails Blue Jean - David Bowie Radioactive - The Firm I could go on-and-on-and-on-and....well, you get the point. I'd also recommend the following albums that are great from start to finish: The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking - Roger Waters Blade Runner (soundtrack to the movie) - Vangelis Cheers, Derek Title: Re: Music.............. What's Yours? Post by: FieroBUZZ on December 30, 2006, 09:36:25 pm Have to agree about the Hip. I like 'Put it Off' because it has a really dark feel to it. cruising along after midnight with it cranked really loud is pretty cool.
I like some of Matt Good's stuff. I find I enjoy songs that have one interesting note or beat or whatever. Billy Idol songs usually have a neat little riff or note that catches me. I've played that Queensryche album over and over. Love the way it flows together. Now I like Shamus McBurnie's version of 'Whiskey in the Jar' much better. But as it dates from 1388, it isn't available any more. Sad when a group sinks to trying to rock out folk songs.............. >:D I drive my wife shopping and sit in the truck with the stereo cranked singing away. Scares the shit out of people to see and old fat guy screeching. I especially like it when she comes out complaining that she could hear me in the store. :o Title: Re: Music.............. Sad when a group sinks to trying to rock out folk songs.............. >:D I have the Thin Lizzy version of "Whiskey in the Jar" as well. Don't care for it as much...too much like a ballad (which it is) whereas Metallica rocks it. Cheers, Derek Title: Re: Music.............. What's Yours? Post by: dguy on January 01, 2007, 08:20:48 am Ok, I'll play. The following list is subject to change without notice, mostly because when it comes to music I'm about as flexible as it gets so long as tear-in-my-beer style country doesn't get within spitting distance of me. :P
*More than a few have had their hands in this one; easiest variant to find seems to be by The Commitments. **Eric Clapton's or J.J. Cale's versions most of the time. ***Guitar duel from Crossroads (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090888/) (no, not the Britney Spears flick) where Ralph Macchio's character dukes it out against the Devil's leading axe man, played by Steve Vai. ****Anyone who's in to blues knows that there is a lifetime's worth of covers of this tune available, each one unique and arguably as good as the others. P.s. MacPhail, you are fined one credit for the misspeling of Sammy Hagar's name. :P |
