Analog gauges that are backlit red are the best.
Why? Because analog is easier to read and red does not affect your night vision (like all other colours do, especialy green). Aaron . Personally I prefer a numeric readout for speed & distance, with scaled displays for everything else.
No arguments on the red though... I've always found that the higher the frequency of the light used, the harder it is on the eyes when viewed in dim lighting. Every now and then I think about fitting one or more monochrome LCD dot matrix displays in to the instrument pod, backlighting them with red LEDs, and using microcontrollers to drive them. It's not very high on the priority list however. :) |
