Title: Keep your eyes out! Post by: JetJumper on April 11, 2007, 11:32:48 pm well, in the next 1-2 months I will be searching for a motor for the fiero! 3800SC obviously the newer the better. I haven't figured out the tranny sitution yet, but looks like its going to stay auto :( as it is probably a lot of work to change the car from Auto to Standard. Unless someone has some insite there on that for me, and says its easier then you think. lol.
So, if anyone sees a motor, let me know! thanks. Title: Re: Keep your eyes out! Post by: lacelles on April 12, 2007, 07:28:36 am Check this one..

Are you facing a time constraint of any kind? Just curious, 'cause I find it a bit odd that although you've comitted yourself to an engine transplant that you appear concerned about the amount of "work" to transplant the hydraulics from a stick car in to yours. ??? Ask yourself this: if I really don't like automatics, do I want to have to pull the drivetrain a second time to convert to stick at a later date? On a lighter note though, if you had purchased "your baby" back you'd have a ready-to-go stick setup, complete with a 5 speed instead of the tractor-geared Muncie it came with. :P Title: Re: Keep your eyes out! Post by: aaron88 on April 12, 2007, 09:32:25 am When I converted my car from Auto to manual, other than getting a few parts I'd say there was about 4 hours involved (unless you decide to swap steering columns as well). The hardest part is getting the damn peddles (you need clutch and brake) out of a donor car, when you finally get the damn bolt out put it back in your car the other way around.

Post by: 2ML67 on April 12, 2007, 11:40:12 am The 3800SC works quite well when mated up to the 4 speed auto it comes with, it is faster in the quarter mile and has great fuel mileage on the highway. For a manual 3800SC swap the hardest thing is actually finding a flywheel from a 96 up Camaro 3800 to work with, they are very rare and can be almost impossible to find. That and having one machined and balanced will run you around $300. With that said I have an 84 which is a manual car that I will most likely be changing over to auto so there is every thing you need for that. When you are ready to buy a 3800SC let me know and I will check around to see what is available. Dan

One used to be able to purchase an aluminum flywheel from an outfit in B.C. for about the same end cost and less pain than finding and turning down a Camarobird flywheel. Flippin' outfit (KFGroup) appears to have disappeared however. :( Title: Re: Keep your eyes out! Post by: JetJumper on April 12, 2007, 04:02:07 pm well, its not so much a time frame, I just want to get over my head :P or have it sitting for so long like Gary's :O
But no, I guess it all comes down to if I can source a nice motor with a tranny, (5Pd) or bolt it up to the auto... I dunno yet. I have to cover my insurance for this year first, then its motor hunting time! |
