Title: Finally it drives!
Post by: can machine on May 04, 2007, 09:09:34 pm
Finally got my car on the road. runs perty good. I've got a bit of a clutch issue, probably the master or slave leaking. I'll try bleeding the system first.

One thing I find awkward is the brake is realy close to the side of the console. Makes it hard to go from brake to gas with my big feet. I might take the pedal off my parts car and see if I can mod it.

I don't have particularly large feet, but I find it best to wear a narrow shoe.  I used to have a nice pair of indoor soccer shoes that were the most comfy.

Glad to see it's up and about!   O0

Had a chance to look at my car tonight. The clutch fluid was a little on the low side. The master looks new, the slave dose not. The rubber boot is there but it slides on the shaft, it's not attached to the slave anymore. I'm perty sure the slave is the culprit. Where do you guy's normaly get parts? Autoparts Extra, Napa?

Autoparts Extra, Napa?

Either/or.  :)

You could also try Parts Source, but if they're anything like their parent (Canadian Tire) don't expect much more for Fieros than common tune-up parts.

There's also a slave cylinder rebuild kit available via The Fiero Store.

Called Autoparts Extra, they want $198.00. Ouch! I read on the GTA site Napa has them for $68. I'll call Part Source as well.

Called Part Source and Canadian Tire, they had them for $118. Called Napa and sure enough $68, the part is american made also. Tried to bleed it the other night and I couldn't even crack the bleeder on it. So I guess that leaves me no option.

Take it back to NAPA and go thru their stock till you find one without a seized bleeder.

Sorry, I meant  the one on the car was seized. I was going to try bleeding the system first because I wasen't 100% sure my slave was bad. But because I couldn't crack the bleeder I had to get a new one. I ordered it and they over nighted it from Cambridge, picked it up tonight. I got the old one off and it was in perty bad shape. The mounting bracket it mounts to is also cracked, so I guess I'll weld it up at work tomorrow.

Fixed my bracket at work today (it's nice having a TIG at work, and someone who knows how to weld  O0 ), got my new slave on and bled the system. Runs perty good now.

Congrats!  What brand is the slave?  I'll need to get one as mine looks pretty nasty.

I got it from NAPA in Almonte. It's a United Brake Part. It's American made and Napa owns the company that makes them. They make them for Raybestos. The Raybestos ones are $198. I paid $68 through Napa.

wow thats a lot for a slave fiero store sold those for like 60 bucks. an the bracke would be 15 at kick hill fiero. kick hill fiero an fiero warehouse are the two best place's for parts like the brackets for the slave cyl an tranny brackets. I always break the tranny bracket near the trunk snap it in two sometimes 3 15 dollars. clutch cable brackets too are only 15 dollars. Ive broke two of those as well. which is weird but It happens.

Ya it pays to shop around. I got the slave for $68 and fixed the bracket at work for free so it worked out well.
