Title: fuel problems Post by: PhilTheThrill on May 31, 2007, 05:19:31 pm I have an 84 fiero and the fuel injector isnt spraying. The fuel pump is working as i can hear it when the ignition is turned on. What could be the problems causing it not to work. Would a faulty TPS cause no fuel to be injected. I had an extra injector laying around but it also is not working. Is ther ea relay or some bad wiring i should be looking around for?

It runs under the throttle body through a single wire connector similar to an O2 sensor plug then dissapears into the harness. if this wire is broken or not connected there is no power for the computer to fire the injector or run the pump beyond the initial priming of the pimp. Title: Re: fuel problems Post by: dguy on June 01, 2007, 07:53:32 am Does the tach move when you crank the starter?
Title: Re: fuel problems Post by: PhilTheThrill on June 02, 2007, 05:31:22 pm The tach moves in sync with the starter.

Have you checked for voltage on one of the injector plugs' wires when the key is on? Have you tested the injector itself? (jumping its terminals with a 9v battery is an easy backyard test) Title: Re: fuel problems Post by: PhilTheThrill on June 03, 2007, 03:13:33 pm The injector works fine with a 9 volt battery. ill check the plug with a voltmeter i just have to find it. Is there anywhere on the wiring that the plug for the injector would be prone to breaking.
Title: Re: fuel problems Post by: PhilTheThrill on June 03, 2007, 07:15:48 pm got the car to start although temporarily. It was fault wiring had to look at the whole harness. Now theres another wiring problem. While on the plug from the alternator came off and teh connection is pretty loose and it wont go back in. Maybe its time i change it. Is there any differinces between years in alternators?
Title: Re: fuel problems Post by: dguy on June 04, 2007, 01:20:36 pm Replacement pigtails for the two-wire connector are available at CTC and other stores, if that's what you need. A little bit of solder & heat shrinkable tubing, and you're all set.
Regarding replacement alternators, you should be able to bolt on the alternator from any 84-86 Duke. Alternators from a 87/8 would require a small wiring change and a pulley change. Title: Re: fuel problems Post by: PhilTheThrill on June 04, 2007, 03:43:11 pm Yeh it is the two wire connector that keeps falling out but plug on the alternator seems to be also broken as the pins move around freely. I heard that alternators from later models are a better type and would last longer.

I don't know about lasting longer, but they are a superior design. Kitten's car received the CS alternator a while back. Nothing to it at the time, but then again my next door neighbor ran a starter/alternator shop out of his garage. ;D He pulled a CS-130 off the shelf, switched the face to one which matched the the mounting ear arrangement for the Duke, and handed me a short "conversion harness". All I had to do is install the v-belt pulley and mount it. O0 |
