Title: Transport Canada and thier stupidity Post by: JetJumper on December 07, 2007, 12:01:38 am so, they have this car for auction right now.
http://crownassets.pwgsc.gc.ca/...CONTRACT_TYPE=L (http://crownassets.pwgsc.gc.ca/main-e.cfm?sidenavcmd=whatsforsale&cmd=ShowPics&subcmd=shop&SALELOT=R7OT05334-Lot%2017&LOTCONTRACTNO=156929&LOT_CONTRACT_TYPE=L) You might remember it from thier advanced testing video's as the smart roadster that they imported from Europe. I spent 2 days, phone and asking everyone possible, if there is any way that I would be able to buy this car, and keep it in canada. And of course, there is not an option at all. "TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SALE Vehicles are to be sold for exportation only. Vehicles are inadmissable in Canada. Can not be offered for resale in Canada. Those vehicles were built and certified for the EU markets and will have to be exported to one of those EU countries. Proof of exporting will be required. Buyer will have to make arrangements to bring the container to Transport Canada, premises 2780 Sheffield Road in Ottawa. Vehicles will have to be loaded in the container in the presence of a Customs agent and the container will be sealed by Customs. May consider other exportation arrangement that would satisfy the proof of exportation requirements for Customs. " doesn't that just SUCK! They also have 4-5 Regular Smart Cars for auction as well, but since they are European spec, and not North American, yet again, they fall under the same Conditions and have to be exported. IF these cars are not purchased, guess what happens to them? THEY GET CRUSHED!!!!! ARG. Here I am, willing to buy ALL of them I told them, and they said nope, you would have to export them. I don't even want to DRIVE the other cars, I want them for PARTS! Sometimes I hate our Government. wait, no, ALWAYS I HATE THEM! Title: Re: Transport Canada and thier stupidity Post by: JetJumper on December 07, 2007, 01:25:59 am Everyone I have talked to, says no. I have one last place to try, that is Boarder Service, which is the task of tomorrow. We shall see how it goes.
Title: Re: Transport Canada and thier stupidity Post by: Gizmo on December 07, 2007, 01:40:07 am I'd be interested to know what they say. Can't see what the issues would be if they are imported by the books.
Title: Re: Transport Canada and thier stupidity Post by: FieroBUZZ on December 07, 2007, 06:00:30 am If they are not on the allowable RIV list (and 15 years old), they cannot be imported. I believe a foreign national may be able to use it for personal use, but not sell it on.
What if you sign an agreement to strip the car and crush the remains? I believe a foreign national may be able to use it for personal use, but not sell it on. this is the government we are talking about he will not deal with anyone that is actually willing to make a decision on changing the policy unless he can somehow get in contact with the deputy minister of TC.What if you sign an agreement to strip the car and crush the remains? and even then he/she wouldn't do it because then it would set a president for the future and they don't want to have to deal with that. Honestly I think it is a lost cause and I would give up Jet... It is a waste of time to try and get anything done in the government. I believe a foreign national may be able to use it for personal use, but not sell it on. What if you sign an agreement to strip the car and crush the remains? RIV said they have nothing to do with this, because they only deal with North American Cars from the USA. Importing of European cars is up to Boarder Services/TransPort Canada. :( Its just a shame that they don't want to setup a deal, and would rather crush the car if no one buys it. their reasoning for crushing --- "It will save the tax payers money" Thats what the guy told me! I just about lost it on him. |
