Title: Brake Calipers Post by: Madscanner on January 23, 2008, 06:05:59 am Hi All
I'm going to be in Ottawa in a couple of weeks and wondered if there's anywhere I would be able to get front brake calipers for my '85 SE 2M6 (I'm thinking that I might want to bring my spare set of old ones as cores...)? Paul Title: Re: Brake Calipers Post by: dguy on January 23, 2008, 08:05:53 am We have a few burried in our parts shed, however they have all been out of service for quite some time & are therefore "condition unknown" as far as I'm concerned. I imagine that most are only useful as cores at this point.
As far as retailers go, few stores these days will stock any Fiero parts other than common tune-up components. Your best bet would be to select a retailer, and order ahead of your arrival in town. Murphy's Law says that if you wait until you get here, the ETA on the order will be longer than the duration of your stay. Thanks - makes sense. Next question, then, is - What retailers are worth trying, since I'm not that familiar with the town these days... :( Title: Re: Brake Calipers Post by: dguy on January 23, 2008, 10:13:43 am Next question, then, is - What retailers are worth trying, since I'm not that familiar with the town these days... :( No prob. Roughly where will you be staying? Title: Re: Brake Calipers Post by: Madscanner on January 23, 2008, 01:44:19 pm Hi
I'll be splitting my time between downtown (near the Police station) and Buckingham (I'm in town to do the Canadian Ski Marathon...). NAPA quote - $43.42 + $25.00 core charge, per side PartSource - $44.82 + $15.00 core charge, per side Hard choice... Title: Re: Brake Calipers Post by: Madscanner on February 14, 2008, 11:53:18 am All sorted out now - PartSource on St Laurent were very helpful and friendly.
Brought my cores with me, so the calipers were relatively cheap. I've already got new pads and discs, so will be able to get cracking on the work as soon as I get back, although I will have to coordinate that with replacing the bushings (have had some poly bushings sitting around for about a year, waiting for the right opportunity). As the new calipers came with new pistons, I now have a set of unused phenolic pistons to sell... Title: Re: Brake Calipers Post by: dguy on February 17, 2008, 06:38:12 am Good stuff!
Title: Re: Brake Calipers Post by: Madscanner on February 18, 2008, 06:03:34 pm Also brought back some replacement headlight retaining rings and adjusters to go along with some uprated bulbs.
Have been waiting a while to do this, as both of my headlight rings had broken tabs, so it wasn't really worth upgrading the bulbs if the light units were a bit wobbly... Took about an hour to get everything done - quite a difference, but now need sort the aim out a bit better. Ciao! It's been a while, so I thought I'd bring you up to date - Funny how life has a habit of getting in the way... Finally got my new front calipers painted and installed about a month ago - at the same time, I had to do some work freeing off one of the rear calipers I re-built over 2 years ago... Makes a bit difference, having good brakes all around ;D More posted on my main update thread. Ciao! |
