Title: HELP?
Post by: JetJumper on February 06, 2003, 03:57:18 pm
Does anyone know any EZ way on how to remove the alt from an 84 4 banger?  Without dropping the craddle?

Try loosening or unbolting the alternator bracket a bit more work but hey if it works or remove the dog bone and push the engine over a bit.

Hi Chris, sorry to hear about your trouble. Hope I can help.
As you have found out the alternator a difficult item to remove, you will cuss and you will get dirty from the insulation.
What you need to do is remove the dogbone. The engine end is straight foreward, the strut end is a bit more involved, you need to remove the triangular plastic cover from the wheel well to allow access to the bolt. Unbolt the alternator top and bottom, try and pull it out, if no luck, leave it there and unbolt the alt bracket from the engine, (I have done it both ways removing the bracket is easier) remove it, this will allow you to pull the alternator out the top.
Good luck Chris, if you get stuck or have any problems shoot me an email and I'll see if I can help.
 Kevin

it's been a while, but isn't the 2.5L alternator a peice of cake to just take out the top? I know the 2.8L need it out the wheel well.
