Title: rear wheel bearings
Post by: 2ML67 on November 11, 2009, 07:00:47 pm
Any one know of a decent place to get rear wheel bearing assemblies actually made in North America, one of them is bad on my car and the cheapest I can find is $140 but it is made in China crap. Dan

I thought you got a big discount at NAPA?

I'll see what I can find.

The Belleville store gives me dealer cost but the Peterborough one does not always do that so they are $180 and the guy is not sure where it is made because he has to order one in.
Pretty sad that you can get them in the US for $69, so I might end up just ordering one from the US. Dan

$140-180 is on par with General Bearing Service in Ottawa, I think.  No idea who the manufacturer is.

Dan is the bearing truly bad, or just loose?  Those things whack/press apart pretty darn easily.  I've come across one or two which felt loose on the bench, but would spin free & smoothly once the axle stub was bolted in.

$219 for premium SKF bearing - but the guy couldn't find them anywhere in the system when he looked.  Aparently they stoped making them.

$97 plus tax for the mystery bearing (ea).

Let me know.

There was a slight howling noise from the old one when I was driving it and there was about 1/4 inch of play off the car so I tossed it.
Thinking now I should have kept it till I got a new one so I can still move the car around. Dan

I can pull one off of one of our parts cars on Sunday & mail it to you if you like.  No idea if it's road-worthy, but it would certainly be yard-worthy.  Let me know...

Broke down and bought one this morning, now once I instal it and put that side of the car back together I will be able to move the car around to build the exhaust system.
Finally have the engine fully mounted including both dog bones built with polly bushings, both axles in and every thing is lned up nicely. The tranny clears the frame by 1/8 inch and the axles both clear by 1/2 inch when the suspension is all the way down so nothing should hit and the alt is mounted up top with no clearance problems at all. I hope you got a better price for that China bearing.  They told me $97.

I called the Napa in Belleville and they got me a deal on one here so I ended up getting one not made in China for $85. That and I am now getting parts here all the time at dealer cost. Dan

Hey Dan, I had to replace both bearings on my SE recently.  1st line was $110 each,  F.A.G. bearings for $92 each, or Fenco's for $45 each. All come with a 1 year warrenty, so I went with Fenco's.
