Title: Holy crap Post by: 2ML67 on March 15, 2010, 05:14:01 pm Did the best alignment I could at home to get her ready to go to the alignment shop in a few weeks and decided to go for a short drive to see how I like her.
Lets just say with out going too crazy as the clutch is still within its 500 km break in this thing flies. Got onto it a little in first and spun both wheels for about fifty feet till I got control and put her in second where she broke loose again throwing the car side ways. Well let off to get her straight and slowly sped up and put her in third before giviong her some more gas and man It has been a long time since I have been planted that hard into the seat. Brought her up to 5,500 rpm and slapped her into fourth and slammed back into the seat again. This is going to be one fun car to drive once every thing is done and all set up. My poor tranny :-\ Don't worry about it Garry, I'm sure Dan will take good care of your tranny because he has no spare right now :-X Title: Re: Holy crap Post by: lsixtyseven on March 15, 2010, 10:58:51 pm Is this the same motor you had in your red notchie with the 3800 sc?
Title: Re: Holy crap Post by: dguy on March 16, 2010, 10:39:36 am Well let off to get her straight and slowly sped up and put her in third before giviong her some more gas and man It has been a long time since I have been planted that hard into the seat. Brought her up to 5,500 rpm and slapped her into fourth and slammed back into the seat again. So that relatively wide rpm drop from 3rd to 4th on the 4-speed isn't an issue when you throw torque enough at it? ;D I like that tranny for cruising on the street, but the 3/4 gap always strikes me as a bit wide for road course use. Not that it matters when I haven't even started my frickin' rebuild yet. ::) Title: Re: Holy crap Post by: 2ML67 on March 16, 2010, 01:05:55 pm This is an all new fully done engine using a series III bottom end, diamond pistons bored .030 over, NIC cam, stage three heads, ported lower intake and exhaust and the Northstart throttle body. Just waiting on the 42.5 lb injectors so I can do a final tune to get more power by dropping to a 3" SC pulley from the 3.3 I have on there now.
According to my boost gauge and my lap top I am hitting 12 lbs of boost under mild to medium acceleration so once I drop to the 3" I should be able to hit around 14 to 15 lbs quite easily. The third to fourth on the V6 4 speed is a bit much with the 2.8 but works real nice with the higher torque of the 3800 SC engine being just one more nice thing about this tranny engine combo. Hoping to break 400 WHP this time which shouldn't be too hard with this set up as long as the tranny can take it, but then again after I finally get my butt to Claudes I will have two spares just incase. Dan Title: Re: Holy crap Post by: c-l on March 16, 2010, 06:23:03 pm Still doesn't mean you can't take care of Garry's in the mean time ;) Title: Re: Holy crap Post by: lsixtyseven on March 16, 2010, 10:34:25 pm I hope to get close to the power you are getting with yours, i won't be done till late summer ( i think).
Are your stage 3 heads from zzp and if so did you do any extra porting to them. I'm just wondering how much better they would be then your last heads which were done seemed to be good heads. Were you not close to 400 hp on your last motor? Title: Re: Holy crap Post by: 2ML67 on March 17, 2010, 08:22:40 am Yes they are ZZ Performance heads this time around and yes I did a little extra porting on them myself before installing.
las time around she dynoed in at 389 WHP with an auto tranny so hopefully this time around I break the 400 point with a manual tranny and a little more engine work. Dan Title: Re: Holy crap Post by: lsixtyseven on March 17, 2010, 11:46:06 am Glad to see you back in the drivers seat of another powerful fiero. I thought you wouldn't be buildiing another but you can't stay away from the them.
After reading about your first drive, i really can't wait to finish my. Title: Re: Holy crap Post by: cowans on March 17, 2010, 04:57:40 pm I call BS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't worry Gary!!! If memory serves me well, Dan breaks axles!!! That 4 spd should be fine, depending on how much 'air' time it recieves in parking lots... heheh! just dropped in and had to razz ya Dan.We all know you are a sissy driver. >:D p.s. My poor tranny :-\ best, Sandy Title: Re: Holy crap Post by: 2ML67 on March 17, 2010, 06:02:58 pm Axles I do not know what you are talking about and I would never drive improperly in any way through a CDN tire parking lot.
Besides I figure the tranny will have the diff exploding all over the place long before the axles let go. The sway bars showed up today, the rear is already on and the front removed waiting for me to instal the new one then all that is left is the two front outer tie rods and every thing suspension wise will be new and heavy duty so she should handle quite nicely now. Then if things go well I might even get around to painting her this year so it will be all one colour and even more all the same shade unlike my last few Fieros. Dan Title: Re: Holy crap Post by: 87GT on March 18, 2010, 06:40:45 pm Dan,
Estimate of times at Shannonville drag nights ? Mid 11s ? or better ............ Title: Re: Holy crap Post by: 2ML67 on March 18, 2010, 07:12:26 pm Hard to say 1/4 wise as the manual trannies are slower in the 1/4 due to shifting and such so not sure what to expect.
I figure the same set up with a good auto would easily hit low 11's but with a manual I would be suprised to see much better then a very low 12 or high 11. Dan Title: Re: Holy crap Post by: aaron88 on March 18, 2010, 09:54:59 pm Assuming your car weighs 2990 lb with you in it, you should be able to run mid high 11's. With your manual trans.
