Title: Headlights Post by: 88formula on April 13, 2010, 04:45:06 pm Just wondering if anyone has had problems with their headlights before.
My left light has its trouble popping up and even when it does, the motor keeps running after it is up, unlike the other that gets up and then the motor turns off. What im assuming is that it's run by a spiral gear and the gear is worn? any chance anyone knows of a quick fix? Title: Re: Headlights Post by: dguy on April 14, 2010, 09:36:37 am The most common failure with the 87/8 headlights is the disintegration of three plastic bushings within the motor. On occasion there's a big plastic gear there which will strip, but it's not as common.
The only way to identify your failure is to split the motor's case & have a look inside... Title: Re: Headlights Post by: FIERO-JOE on April 14, 2010, 10:07:19 am you will have to drill out the rivits and open the case..
2 ways to repair.. 1) is to replace the worn gear.. 2) and this has worked for me in the past.. if the big round gear is damaged// just rotate the gear 180.. as that gear does not turn more then halfway when working the lights.. so if you place it correctly it will work for you.. it may take a few trys to get it right but will work..
