Title: scan gauges
Post by: 2ML67 on April 21, 2010, 04:24:53 pm
Playing around with the car today after the alignment and decided to see what kind of readings I get from my new scan gauges.
According to Aeroforce the HP and 1/4 mile times are supposed to be accurate but I doubt they are.
Stopped along a nice side road and went through the program to try a 1/4 mile run and set the second gauge to read KR and HP.
Well pounded on her pretty hard but not full or enough to damage my not broken in yet clutch and got a reading in first gear of 396 HP and over 400 in second, by the time I got into third I stopped glancing at the gauge as it was getting a little hard to keep the car on the road.
In the end the gauge spit out a 1/4 mile time of 11.2 which is not too bad but as mentioned I doubt it is accurate because I was not pushing the car all the way.
May have to wait till summer then give her a pass or two at a track to get a proper reading.
One thing for sure is the cars drives a lot straighter with a full alignment. Dan

nice!!!  And your just getting started.

First gear can't tell you the power because you can spin the tires.  You might have to use fourth gear.  Also remember that if your total weight is off by as much as 5 lb or the road isn't perfectly flat your readings will be off by more than you can rely on.

The scan gauge is supposed to be as acurate as those G techs and in the past comparisons between Shannonville and a flat side road were close but not bang on.
The road I was playing on is very flat that is why it has been used for years for racing but I still do not see an 11.2 or even a 12.2 with the amount I was pushing the car.
It is kind of fun to nail the gas pedal and see the HP numbers rise though but the MPG numbers it is giving are way off when the pedal is moving towards the floor or right off the gas at higher speeds. Dan
