when you turn on the car (in the run position but not start) is the batt lite on?

your alternator is not "exciting" (it must be from england :P ) hehehe. What the problem is is the exciter cercuit is not connected to the alt. there is one big cable for the batt, one little cable for eciter. that cable is torn or not connected. When the car is in the on position and you gound that cable, your batt light will turn on.

Cheers!
Eric

Where does this cable attach?  Is it the one off the starter?

it goes to the instrument cluster / fuse box I beleive. check the wiering diagrams on PFF, you can trace the circuit. My first step would be to take that wire off the alt (the little one, and ground it when the key is on, if the batt lite turns on, the wire is ok and the alternator exciter circuit is toast, if the lite does not turn on, trace the wire.

NEW UPDATE!

The car is fixed.  ( I hope)  I haven't had the time to drive it around due to it not having any insurance on it.  I put it all back together and it turns out (VERY COMMON ISSUE!) there was a BAD ground.  I am hoping that is all.  After I changed the oil, put the alt back on, and cleaned the ground.  It seems like the Battery is charging again.  I left the car idling in the garage (With the GARAGE DOOR OPEN OF COURSE) and left it for 20minutes.  Came back the battery was still charging.  So Time will tell!!
