Post by: Boy-z on March 05, 2003, 02:59:56 pm
I WAS WANTING TO KNOW THE SET UP FOR THE K&N AIR INTAKE FILTER. AND IS THERE A PART NUMBER OR WAS IT A MOD THAT WAS DONE AND IF SO WHAT AM I LOOKING FOR. I REMEMBER A FEW MEMBERS HAVING IT

 ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

I have a K&N filter in my stock air box.  I don't have a number, but CTC should have a catalogue.  The K&N advantage is that they are free flowing, and can be cleaned and re used rather than thrown away.  They are more expensive.

You can make a tube cold air intake yourself with a K&N cone filter at the end or buy a ready made.  I believe a CAI for a Honda Civic has the right shape and length for us to use.  No real advantage here, just looks cooler than stock.

Actually from what I have read the K&N doesn't make much if any difference on the stock setup. The Fiero factory setup is quite good and the K&N would only be worth while if major engine mods are done requiring more air intake. For example larger cam or bigger engine like the 3800SC series II of course or in the future series III if you want to spend that much. On my 3100SFI car I experimented with stock filter, the K&N filter and a cone filter I borrowed from a friend's honda and found no real difference or at least not on the 1/4 mile.

hi Karl
if you are going to do the whole set of mods you are talking about then a K&N would probably be a worthwhile addition; I think they do actually flow better and of course they are cleanable - I have them on my bike and they FILTER! You gotta clean them which means they are stopping stuff, and that is nice to know!
If you put in a bigger cam, free flow exhaust and maybe do something with the throttle body and a chip I would think the K&N would be a logical item to do too.   8)
