Title: ClOde call
Post by: fiero_fighter on July 08, 2012, 06:44:33 pm
Almost ditched the fiero today!  Steering failed mid way through a corner as well as a rad hose.
Wound up 360ing my car in a corner and stopping 5 foot shy of a ravine.
Steering is now off by 45 degrees and a RAD hose let go mid spin out.
I need to drop a tire for rebalancing, drop the steering and of course re place the coolant hose that got ate. Could have been much, much worse.

WOW  :o

What broke in your steering system to cause the 45 degrees off.

Not sure yet. I was very close to home, drove slow and parked the car.  It's only been back on the road a week, so before I look at what went wrong I have to stop thinking about sending her off to the scrap yard...  I should be better by tomorrow,  lol

Well If it comes down to this, let me know, I will go and pick a few parts from it... and, of course, I will gladly match the wreck yard's dollar value for the weight of the car  >:D

Did you hit some thing that popped off the rad hose and either bent a tie rod or damaged the rack, possibly a ball joint gone. Either way a quick visual under the car should give you an idea of what is wrong and as long as the rest of the car is good she should be worth fixing. Dan

Haven't had tine to get under it yet. Any damage will be fairly minor, I'm sure. Passed the skid site on my way home, one of my wheels locked up. So I'm looking at break or bearing failure, one wheel has to come off to pull the gravel out and rebalance. And I have to track down the steering issue. All in all not too bad, with any luck and a light work week I'll be up and running by the weekend

Sounds more to me like one of your bolts/nuts came loos and jammed in the rotor/caliper or against the wheel causing the other damage.  Maybe the nut from the outer tie rod, or one of your caliper bolts?
