Title: Knocking from top end? Post by: tweeder on August 05, 2012, 06:12:37 pm I have a 90's 3800 swapped buy a previous owner. The bottom end was supposedly done a few weeks ago. There is one or two knocks when it's fired up then as it gets warmer it will become more noticeable. That and when revved a few thousand rpms, but will go away if letting off the throttle. I took a stethoscope and it sounds like its coming from the front left( when standing at the back and looking forward). So I pulled off the valve cover and all looks fine no broken rocker or spring. Maybe a lifter? Title: Re: Knocking from top end? Post by: tweeder on August 30, 2012, 11:48:11 pm Pulled the pan and it's a connecting rod bearing. I will replace it and
hope it lasts another month and a half intill it gets parked and the 3800sc gets swapped in. Title: Re: Knocking from top end? Post by: aaron88 on August 31, 2012, 02:24:49 am Sounds like you have it under control now. That kind of noise is almost never okay.
