Title: Custom Seat Upholstery
Post by: dguy on March 12, 2003, 01:43:38 pm
In case you haven't read it yet, fiero308 had a good idea...  if enough interest is there, perhaps it would be possible to have a local shop create some new covers for those of us with aging seats.

So here is one of a few polls I'm going to post over the next little while, to try to get an idea of demand and preferences.  After that, who knows where this will go... 8)

I doubt very much that you will beat Mr. Mikes (price or quality) locally for leather.  mrmikes.com (?)

If we had enough interest we may get a discount? JP has mr. Mikes and they are very nice.

hi Gary
knowing NOTHing about upholstery I am wondering if a GOOD (emphasis) local shop developed a set of patterns (one set would do?- don't know)
then it would become more of a material cost issue after that.
I really like the look of Mr Mikes and don't doubt the quality; but the old barrier to trade is still pretty high.
What are they; about $450US?
that is roughly $675 Cdn (at nominal 1.50 exchange); THEN we would pay GST upon entry; $47.25; PLUS shipping PLUS brokerage fees; I wouldn't be surprised if those totalled $100 Cdn; and maybe insurance which I haven't allowed for;
so I am thinking that is about $850 Cdn for a set of very nice seat covers..... and that makes me think it is at least worth asking around a bit; does anyone know of a GOOD quality auto upholstery place in the area?
Might even be one already doing it in Tronna... ;)
I would love to put Mr Mike's in my car; but....... that is my little obstacle.
I figured it is worth asking anyway.  ;) ??? ;D

hi Rebel
do you know of a good quality upholstery shop in the area?
I went around to a few to get quotes on getting my bike seat redone and found they all had their own ideas and comments about workmanship;
I guess an automotive specialist would be a good idea;
anyway we could start asking; no harm there.
If we were to bring 5-10 cars over a yr or two that isn't bad for them either.
 :)
