Title: Need an appraisal. Recommendations?
Post by: fiero308 on May 26, 2003, 09:34:05 am
I am pretty sure I want to get my car registered as a kit car. It is NOT an easy process and I expect a fight according to the people I have talked to so far.  With all my mods I think I can make a decent case for it.  Especially when I complete the engine/trans swap....
That will give me a bit more latitude to do brake and suspension upgrades and not run afoul of any regulations.......   8)

Who has had this done to their car, (for ANY car, actually!) by what company and what are your comments (good or bad appreciated!!!!)  I am going to do this fairly soon, I hope.

Well I had my car appraised by Grandpa's Garage it cost 90 dollars and he did up a real nice port-folio and he is in the phone book I believe Eric used him also.

My insurance company had no problem with insuring a KIT CAR. I can give you the agent's name etc if you have any problems with your present insurer. Have you tried them, just for curiosity?

I got the seller to change my car's registration to KIT CAR, and I have copies of most of the paperwork involved, plus a contact name at MoT, complete with address.

With the grief that the "Rice Racers" are causing, I think it is prudent to have the details in place to save hassle in the event of incidents.

thanks Don
you may want to PM me with the specifics; I will give them a try.
I did talk to my own insurer and as soon as something is "not vanilla" with them it is not insurable, either.

I would also like to hear from anyone who has had problems with an insurer or appraiser....... anyone?  ???

If you have any names and numbers etc perhaps you could pass them along.....?
thanks!

They laughed at me when I went to Bradleys Insurance in Stittsville for a quote.
