Title: E test
Post by: Fieroflyer on June 11, 2003, 08:42:39 pm
Well I have now put over 1,000 KM on the 3800SC and tomorrow she goes for her E-test, she better pass or its to the classifieds for her.
I can't see any reason why she won't pass in all the driving there has been no loss of fluids of any kind and no signs of oil burning so tomorrow I'll see how E friendly these engines are.
Any one even slightly considering this swap I suggest go for it. It may be a lot of work but well worth it in the end and with all the info out there it is not that complicated. Heck for the right price I would even do one for someone else. Dan

As you all know there is no e- test in Quebec but it is coming within the next year or two.I had my GT at speedy last week to have work done to it so i though it's their so why not have a cat converter installed. So here comes my question & i hope i can get some answers to my problem. When i picked the car up next day & when i drove off it did not feel like the same car :-\.It had lost some of it's kick.I have been told the cat converter will meallow out the engine now if this is a fact then im having it removed & wait for the law to come out.Has anyone experience the on & off converter & found a difference in the engine's operation or it's just me rambling on.............. :-\ :-\

the little I have learned about the cats is they are sized to the vehicle; ie engine and weight etc etc so the high flow cats are made for bigger vehicles; a smaller one, ie picked for the pipe connection or overall size (BOTH considerations for a fiero  ::) ) might be pretty restrictive......
just a guess.

maybe you should ask them what it was sized for or how they selected it. It may very well be the 'right' size but that wouldn't make it a "Hi Flow" cat.

I called Speedy back @ im told the original converter run around $750 :o :o :o :o...wow plus install so what they did they put on a universal a total cost of $260 so as you were saying it may have fit but not the one specified for the car.But eventually i will not have a choice to have one intalled & because of the cost @ if i still have this GT i will have to bite the bullet & go back to the universal :-\ :-\ :-\

Been busy running around but car passed with no problems at all. Took to the same garage I take all my cars. At least there it is an honest test.
HC ppm allowed 314 was 43
CO% allowed 2.49 was 0.05
NO ppm allowed 3298 was 36
Not too bad for a legitimate E-test, think maybe I will keep her now but you never know it was a lot of fun building. Of course this means I can now put in the aftermarket PCM and the 3.4 inch pulley.
Cat I used is a high flow 3 inch in/out for much bigger size engine that way no or little restriction. Dan

No fair!   We want to know how they treated the car.  Did they test it as a stock six?  Or rate it as modified.  What does the test form say?

'Jealous in Almonte'

they tested mine as a 3.1L, but what a shitty day for first on the road, pissed rain all day long,I really need to remember that it's not a 4 banger I'm driving now, she got a bit cockeyed in the rain leaving from the light, oh well, joy!!!! I think this calls for a special meeting, the Prez actualy has a running Fiero on the road, imagine that.

Now I would just hate to think that all that work into the car was just so you could spin your tires, but it does it so well doesn't it.
As for mine they tried 4 times and the tester would not accept the 3.8L as stock so it went through as a hot rod. After passing the guy ran a test cycle on the machine with it and entered it as a 1986 2.8L and it still passed no problem. Should of ran it through that way the first time to avoid the hot rod status.
As you can see from two cars in a row the sequential injections systems work much better than the old multi port engines in my opinion the only way to go. Dan

no honestly officer it's a new clutch, I'm just getting use to, see(produces old clutch from trunk)

But the spin was not intentional, remember this is the first  6 cy Fiero I've driven, I'm not used to the ....ah what's that word I'm looking for....ah, oh Balls that's it.

Glad to see you like it and the forecast is good weather for the rest of the weekend. If you feel like a long drive come on down and see generation II (more of what you call balls eh). Dan

I hope it'll be nice for the weekend, going up to my parents for father's day, but I would love to do a cruise down there some weekend, well set something up, I like that drive-in idea
