Title: What rubber on 17" Rims? Post by: BAchorn on June 18, 2003, 01:56:46 pm What size tires do people have on 17" rims? My GT has 205/65r15 now and to match the same OD I would need 235/45R17. Now that is alot of rubber on ground to turn without power steering let alone proximaty to the rear struts (IMO). I maybe way off base as this is my first adventure away from OEM sizes. I see alot of people use smaller front tire, is there an advantage?

I think the stock rears on a GT would be 215.60.15 Using that as a guide, going to 17" would make 225.45.17 a close match. The 17's would be very slightly smaller in diameter and the speedometer would read less than 1% too slow. Don, is that an o-ring on your rim? ;D Must ride like a brick, I'll have to come see them. Using the same size front and rear helps if you want to rotate tires. I would use 205 in the front and whatever you can stick in at the rear without hitting the suspesion bits. If you don't mind the steering effort now, stay with 205's. Gary Title: Re:What rubber on 17" Rims? Post by: BAchorn on June 18, 2003, 07:32:20 pm I thought is was supposed to be 205/60's but there was 65's on it when I bought it a couple of weeks ago. Yes I am in the Ottawa area (loosely, South Mountain to be exact). I just picked up this 88 GT 5sp a couple of weeks ago in Burlington. I have been looking for quite some time for one and this one showed up the same weekend I was headed that way. I used to own an 84 2m4 back in 86-87. I will be getting a picture up soon and I hope to get to the next gathering.
Title: Re:What rubber on 17" Rims? Post by: FieroBUZZ on June 18, 2003, 08:44:16 pm Tinker (Kevin) and PeaceDawg (Ron) are out in or around Kemptville. They are likely the closest.
88's normally have a different front rim to compensate for the revised suspension. This is so that the tire does not jut out from the car. Just something to be aware of. Then of course there's my '85 that a previous owner put a set of '88 rims on. ;) Title: Re:What rubber on 17" Rims? Post by: BAchorn on June 22, 2003, 12:21:26 am Well put the new rims and tires on today. It looks nice (give the car an updated look). 215/45R17 (front) and 235/45R17 (Back) Dunlops on American Racing X-COMP rims. I am putting the OEM gold rims away for the future, it is always nice to have the original parts arround. Picture coming soon.
Title: Re:What rubber on 17" Rims? Post by: PeaceDawg on June 25, 2003, 08:26:12 pm Man for such a small town (South Mountain) there certainly seem to be a lot of Fiero's kicking around. I talked to 2 guys last week from the area who both have Fieros and I know of at least 2 houses that I have seen Fiero's parked at regularlly. ::)
