Title: Is this normal? Post by: dguy on August 05, 2003, 10:14:03 am Finally got around to bending a Firechicken's EGR tube to the right shape yesterday, and started the irritating task of installing it. Boy that was fun--bending the tube that is.
One of the flanges needed to be rotated about 90° in order for it to mate up to the EGR valve properly, but of course the flanges on the Firechicken's tube are firmly fastened to the tube instead of spinning nicely like the stock Fiero tube. One careful bend-and-twist session later... ::) Where was I? Ahh yes, installing the silly tube. Large hands, small space, lots of potty-mouth... :sigh: the things we do to pass e-tests. ;) When I removed a cap I had made for the EGR port on the plenum, I found that a small amount of what appears to be a fuel/oil mix had settled in to the "well" where the EGR tube bolts up. If you're not certain of what I'm talking, take close look at the underside of the plenum where the EGR tube bolts on--you'll see what I mean. If you don't want to take a look, take my word for it. :P I would assume that this is a collection of condensed blow-by, given that the idle air supply draws from the crankcase, and I haven't had the car significantly above an idle for the last few weeks. Anyone else concur? I'm having a slightly paranoid moment. Title: Re:Is this normal? Post by: GoFast85 on August 06, 2003, 10:12:32 am Don't know if this helps but --- I broke mine and put on a used one from the spare motor in my shed. I found that when the engine got good and warm on the highway, that it started to smoke ALOT. Finallly burned of in 20 miles but I was looking in my back mirror for flames for those 20 miles to Embrum.
