Door hinges, *sigh* again..

Maaco is giving me a %$@# hard time. Argh! I knew it with these guys... They are now upping my door hing replacement labour from $45.00 to $200!!!!! WTF?!?!?! anyone have experience with swapping these? I told them I want to go over an pickup the dorr, fix it and bring it back. how hard is this?

Eric: The door side half of the hinge is a bit of a PITA to get undone. I peeled back the skin and did it from the outside. There are 2 13mm bolts as you see.  A bit hard to reach but I used a fairly big air socket.  Sounds like they saw they had to do this and bumped up the time.  I didn't put the other new pin in as the spring has to be held back and I figured the body shop would have the right tool.

How bad were your originals?  Did the door really drop badly when opened?  If not I would have them use the new pins and all your hinge pieces or half mine and half yours.

Tell them to put the effing thing together and paint it!!!!

 I don't mind if you want me to take them back.  I don't suppose you are giving them 2 thumbs up?

Eric I am sad to see you are having a hard time with the Macco in upper vanier. I am so glad I went to the one in the West end. It sounds like a bitch of a job so look at it like this you do it scrap knuckles , snap blots, curse and swear verses 45.00 take your time and didn't the wack in the rear cause the doors to go out of alignment.
hang in there buddy you are going to have the nicest Fiero out there.

Hinges are good Gary! thanks a million.  Let me know how much more $$ you want for them, I was not aware the pins were so much!!  I got Maaco to change the hinges for $90 finally. ARGH!

I have to get my drivers side hinges done. Have been putting it of for some time. Are the pins available from the dealer (how much) as Canadian Tire does not stock them. Wonder who I shold get to put them in?

Rumour has it that Chevy S10 hinge pins fit like a glove, and can be found in CTC's "Help!" section, in addition to other stores.

Personally I'm still trying to figure out this whole door-off hinge pin removal thing.    I've replaced hinge pins on other cars before, with a hammer, punch, jack, a few scraped knuckles, and an assistant.  Never have I had to actually remove the hinge from either the door or the car body and had to fuss about with re-aligning them.

I believe that Maaco told Eric his whole hinge was knackered.  

The part number is 238407 in the 'HELP' blister packs at CTC.  Each pack has 2 bushings and 1 pin.  The pin is slightly longer but doesn't bother anything.  If you want, you can grind the end down a bit.

Just open the door and support it with a jack and a chunk of wood.  The big spring is a hassle.  I think there is a special tool to install.  I have read that you can compress the spring in  a vice, wire it tight and then cut the wire after placement.
