On my 86 Fiero GT there are marker/turning signal lights on the side. There are two wires that come out one for the turning signal "blinker" and the other is for the marker light. The ground is before these wires and mounted to the frame rails. I was going to use these lights "wires" and was testing them to see which one did which task, and heres comes the problem!!!
They touched for a few seconds before I noticed them touching and the marker lights went out along with the dash lights. I turned them off and turned them back on and still no markers lights anywhere on the car and no dash lights. I turned on the head lights and they came up and on but will not go back down. And on top of that the stereo is making a loud humm noise. The turning signals work and the brake lights and interior lights work. I checked all the fuses and they are all good.
Any ideas?Huh?

first thing i would  do is trace the maker light wires you may have burnt the gound wire by shorting them

that how i found out my wiring harnest was all melted together from a short

Good luck Marcel

If you have a multimeter, check the to make sure there is still no connection between the the wire(which ever one shorted) and ground. I don't recall off hand if there is a relay in that circuit, but I'm assuming there is, you may of fried that, constanly shorting it to ground. I'll check the circuit when I get home.

This is trickier than it sounds--there is no simple ground for the front side marker lights, as they ground "through" the front turn signals.  This is how they manage to blink in unison with the front signals when the parking lights are off, but "out of synch" when the parking lights are on.

What he really needs is a wiring diagram, and a lot of patience.   Grin

Lacking either, here are a few more things to go over:
  • re-check those fuses, either with a test light or a multimeter.  If you have neither, outright replace the fuses responsible for both the parking lights & the instrument lamps.  Fuses can easily fail but still appear to be good at a glance.
  • At C200 (front bulkhead wiring connector), find a brown 14-16 gauge wire which should be about the third or fourth one from the bottom on the far left row when viewed from inside the car.  If you're careful, you can poke a probe in to the connector block "beside" the wire, and touch the metal clip inside.  This wire should show no voltage with the headlight switch off, and 10-12v with the switch set for either parking lamps or headlights on.  If it does not, I suspect your problem is somewhere between the fuse panel, the headlight switch, and the bulkhead connector.
Good luck!

There was a little burn mark on the back of the switch so I cleaned it up an solder the crap out of it and also changed the fuse just to be sure and its back to normal, so it was either one or both.
