This, is my BOOMSTICK!!!

« on: November 14, 2005, 10:29:33 am »

I'm in need of the upper metal frame/mount for the front facia for my Formula.  It's the metal piece that runs between both front fenders that the facia attaches to, just in front of the hood.  I suspect that the same mount can also be found on '87-'88 coupes, but not sure about previous years.  If anyone has one cheap (because I'm a Fiero owner! Grin) I would appreciate it.  Thanks!

I have the old one from my 88.  Replaced it with an aluminum one because it was a little rusty, but it's nothing that can't be fixed up.

From the useless trivia department (a.k.a. Don is waiting for a hellspawn of a query to finish running and is looking for a distraction in the mean time):

There are two different flavours of that bar...  84 vs. non-84.

I may have it backward, but my memory tells me that the 84s had slotted mounting holes for the bolts which attach it to the frame where the 85+ are non-adjustable.

Be prepared to have to slot or otherwise massage the holes of the replacement bar in order to get the nose positioned the way it was originally.  I've gone through that with a couple of nose swaps now, and it wouldn't surprise me if the same applies if all you're doing is replacing the support bar.

Is this bar the same between aero and coupe facias?  I had always thought that it was different between the two, but now that I think about it, I don't remember where that assumption came from.

They're definitely interchangeable between the bumper-pad and 87-8 formula noses (been there, done that).  The Fiero Store only lists one bar for all years as well, so I'd assume "yes".

From personal experience, the 84's are different. The very end 7mm screws is what's different between them. One style screws down vertically and the other is horizontal IIRC. Can't remember which is which right now.

That is the screw the fender uses. Dan
