A former boss of mine was waiting at an intersection in northern Ontario when a tire flew off of a transport and smashed into the passenger side door.  Fortunately, there was nobody else in the car and my boss wasn't injured.

I'm not sure what I find scarier--runaway rims, or transport operators who decide that it's time for a new tire only after those damn re-treads separate.
