As some of you know, my new SE has 1 locknut that refuses to come of. I tried everything and just managed to mangle it. Being sometimes a little short on patience, I took to drilling, grinding beating, just about everything. Just succeeded in more mangulation (I'll take credit for that verb).
Bought a LeBaron for my daughter and decided to put the Fiero rims on as they had good snows. Went around loosening the lugnuts and lo and behold........one solitary locknut and no key. Not being brave enough to mangle her car, I went the thinking man's route.
CTC Product #58-9136-8 (I think) Bolt extractor sockets) $28ish
Well, hammered the sucker on, and using a 24MM socket cranked it out like nothing. Had to stick the socket in a vice and whack out the nut with a hammer and small socket.
What about that abortion on my Fiero? Didn't fit so well on the nut and I banged it on good. Used a long bar and slowly but surely it gave up it's grip.
Wife said "why didn't you just get one of those to start with?"
Moral of the story....buy a set for your tool box
