I have had parts shipped from the USA by UPS and they ding you big time.  They drive thru their facility and act as a broker.  You pay broker fees and duties. BIG TIME

I had something come via mail and later received a note from a broker saying I owed duties of $xxx .

I have received several items via regular mail (US Mail Service) and declared as 'used auto parts'.  Have never received anything futher than that.  Just the postage cost.

I believe it is the same for items listed as a 'gift'

Thing might have changed but it used to be used parts have no duty when importing and new parts do. Also used to be that new marine parts did not have duty charges either. Worked great for SBC engine parts were used in marine applications.

just a word of caution here; I have recently bought a number of items from the states and had them sent up various ways.
US Mail was the most unreliable; NOT TO BE CONFUSED with the 'least reliable'.  They were awful.
They screwed up 2 out of nine items.  1 was permanently lost and the other took a month to get here; finally arrived in a plastic bag provided by Canada Post with a big note saying "This is the shape it was in when WE got it" - the book was completely separate from its wrapper (which had been torn into 2 parts) and it was a miracle that it really ever got any farther than it did.
I contacted the seller about it and they said they had 3 similar problems in the previous 2 months.
I would not and DO not use USPS for anything now unless it is actually valueless and I don't care about whether I get it or not.  And so that would apply to exactly what?
So I insist on Fedex or UPS now and bite the bullet and pay the piper too.  Things are expensive from the states not going there.  The same shipper quoted over 30% less (equivalent final cost) to send an item there than to bring that thing here.  Go figure.
all fyi
check out shipping costs and be careful!!!!!!!!!!!!

Incoming items declared as "warranty replacement parts" also appear to be exempt.

Yust got some Jeep parts (expected to arrive soon) form Ohio, UPS had two prices: $18US and $32US both UPS Standard Shipping for a package ~9lb, standar size... $18US is the price without tax, customs and such and it would be subject to customs. $32US was tax, customs and such included.

I used the $32US price and the shipment was released from customs immediatelly according to the UPS package tracking. Last time I called UPS for tracking purposes I asked if I paid in full and they said I did and there won't be any additional charges from anyone. We'll see, I'm still waiting to get the package, it's due Tuesday...

My 2 cents...
