I've now had my car since last August and I have a question that may seem odd. I've never been able to fill my gas tank all the way to the top (at least according to the gas gauge) the fathest i've been able to get the gas gauge to go is halfway between 3/4 and full ( which usually takes 28+ litres if I'm filling from close to the 'E'). now my question is.. Does anybody else have this interesting problem? could I have a faulty gas gauge  Sad ? am I an idiot that can't fill his gas tank properly  Tongue ? or is this another interesting quirk that my car has   Grin ?  any ways that's my multi-part interesting question, any thoughts would be appreciated.   Cool

Pretty sure it's a common problem.  The best way to correct this is to take the gauge apart so you can get at the needle.  With a full tank, pry off the needle and reinstall pointing to full.  Tada!  I hear that a couple of spoon used to pry off the needle (straight up) works well.

I've heard that cramming that last drop of gas in can cause problems with the overflow and contaminate the cannister.  I usually quit when the pump automatically shuts off on slow speed.

BTW, anyone venturing down to the tank may want to check those old hoses for cracks (or rust in the piping) or leakage.  They do get brittle with age.

I have seen this problem before on a few cars but never adjusted the needle for full. I felt the bottom end accuracy was more important so I only ever calibrate for the emply side of the gauge. Dan

I agree with Dan I much rather it be acurate at the m/t side if I have over 3/4 I am laughing with that. but my car does get to the full mark but it never goes over Well it get about a needles with away anyway.

Could be that the original gas tank was replaced and the new one was smaller.  I recently had to replace the gas tank on my civic and I am pretty sure that the new gas tank is smaller.  Since being replaced my gas gauge reads slightly higher than three quarters full on a full tank.  It read full before.  I can also fill the tank about $10-$15.00 cheaper than before so this might be a possibility.
