fun with the clutch

Well spent most of Sunday bleeding the clutch system. I know it a long way from the master cylinder to the slave but we used up 3 bottles of fluid. Ended up that I saw a hairline crack in the mounting bracket for the slave. It did snap off and I figure that that was the problem as the slave would not move the rod far enough. Looking to buy another used mounting plate is anyone out there has one for sale.

if there is not one readily avail you could get yours welded, probably quite inexpensively.
worth a thought; I am finding that machine shops are not too bad - and I am really getting a tour of them!!!!
is it steel or aluminum? (magnet test if you are not sure)
what part of town are you in? Worst comes to worst I could weld it but you will have to sign a 45 page indemnity agreement first  !!!!

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago.  The slave cylinder bracket on my 86 4spd broke.  The stock bracket IS aluminum.  I would not recommend repairing it at all:  It's just too flimsy IMO.  I ordered a new bracket from Rodney Dickman.  It's a high quality STEEL replacement.  Since I installed it, and bled my clutch as per Archie's method, I have not had a problem with the clutch system.

It looks like that soft alum. :-( Not another 3 weeks!! Will it see the road this summer? Even if I can find another alum. one and get a steel one later. Hope that this is the problem. Will look at the Archie site to see if I missed something in the bleed. Does sure look mighty fine with the 17" wheels though!

4 sp - Don't know if the 5 is the same or not. Will take it out tonight so can compare if nessessary

I got a clutch from FieroBUZZ and had it resurfaced (quick 2 hour service from Tony @ A & C Auto on Baseline). I now have the used one out of the vehicle as a spare if anyone needs one. I also have a auto flywheel that I also "collected" I am still looking for a clutch slave bracket, or someone to build me a steel one.

Just about finished a repair on an 84 for a friend so I should be able to search my garage today, will let you know. Just isn't as much fun when you are only doing stock replacements. Dan
