Yes and yes!
Tyler (Fiero34GT) has one in his car.  If you want a bit stronger and more powerful motor that looks stock, that's the one.

He can fill you in better.

That depends on what you are looking for this conversion to do for you.  So...

I have the 3.4 pushrod engine in my Fiero.  It is a noticable improvement over the 2.8, but nothing wild.  If your 2.8 is running strong, I wouldn't recommend putting the 3.4 in.  It's just not worth the cost.  For myself, my 2.8 was starting to go, and I just lucked out on finding a 3.4 for extremely cheap.

Keep in mind that although this is a fairly straight forward swap, some ECM tuning will need to be done to get the 3.4 running 'just right', although it will run using the stock 2.8 tuning.  Don't use the 3.4 injectors!  They will work, but the engine will run excessively rich at all but WOT.  Your best bet for injectors would be stock mustang 5.0 injectors (19lbs/hr) which can be found quite cheaply if you look carefully.  I found a set of eight on ebay for $50.

As for what is required to get this engine installed, it really depends on what year your Fiero is, and whether or not you have an automatic or manual transmission.  Documentation can be found quite easily on the 'net that pretty much lays it out for you.  Let us know what you plan on doing and how it turns out.  Good luck!
