Should have bought a damn Fiero

Hey all
I should have bought the Fiero. I work at the Canadian tire in bells corners, and someone brought in an 88 yellow with the 3800 Series 2 supurcharged. Well...man....I think I bought the wrong car I have right now a 93 Geo Storm 1.8L (140HP - very similar to the Izuzu Impulse). While a fine car....sigh...I am secretly hoping that it dies in the summer now...

If it was a yellow notchback, it was likely GoSortaFast88 getting his led washer nozzles installed.   

Hey, I like Geo Storms.  I get their headlights for experimentation.

I don't remember if it was a notchback...but it WAS for a tire repair...Sigh...The one thing I can be happy about is that I can carry a LITTLE more in my Storm (who the hell wants to sit in the backseat anyways?)

well this is the time of year to buy one, if you can find one.  But you want to be handy working on cars which I am guessing you would be.  Lots of discontinued parts etc and it seems that NO shops anywhere really want to work on them.

But check the trader and buy&sell etc etc; a 'fixer upper' (big time, no doubt) can be had for $250 to $500 lots of times.  There are LOTS of variations and changes and differences (did I say that enough ways LOL) between the models and years; ESP 84 from the 'rest'.......and 88's are very different too; so the cheapest ones will prob be 84's (for a reason) then 85-87 incl (your best bet prob) then 88 (most expensive.)

84's only came in 4 cyl and gave the car the bad rap; not particularly deserved; there are LOTS of cars that had worse 'per capita' problems but anyway.  85 and up were avail in 4 and 6 cyl.  Would you just want to fix one up or do a swap or what?  Lots of expertise locally, too.  Lots of boards to check out, etc.

That would have been Brian's as he is on his way to Cuba and the car is in my driveway for the winter to do the NOS instal make an offer. No just kiding I can't sell his car on him but if you have enough $ I could build another just like it for you. Seeing as I built his for him last year. To give you an idea he has around $10,000 or more into the car by now. Dan

Even better reason to have boguht the Fiero:

2 days after insuring my Storm, clutch goes on me.
Few days after clutch install, the ign coil is soaked cuz one of the original owners removed the splash guards and never replaced them.
Now, the current problem, and biggest of all...Transaxle bracket sheared the connecting bolts off the transaxle. The result? Two broken bolts in an aluminum trans housing, clutch completely readjusted (5/8" of freeplay to 1"), check engine light (knock sensoer I assume), car barely runs...AND, there is no room to get a drill into the engine bay to drill out the bolts...

Sigh...THAT'S the perfect reason to have bought a Fiero :lol:

Well, I can understand most of the issues...I mean, it is a 12 year old car that has been somewhat neglected. But I simply can't imagine how or why a transaxle bracket would just give out the way this one did...I got the car for $500, had some fun, spent lots of money...time to quit while I'm ahead.
