I have a used turbo unit that I was thinking of getting extensively upgraded to my engine but I figure that is still a ways off and that the cost of getting this done is likely the same as just getting a new, much bigger one anyway.

It is a Garrett TB03 out of a 2.4L volvo. What is GOOD and relatively RARE, is the oil AND water cooled centre section, which is what appealed to me. I expect the already warmish fiero engine compartment to be that much warmer for a turbo, so the water cooled is important.

I also have second one that has a cracked turbine housing (pretty common) but might be good for parts? It is oil only; no water on this one.  Both are of the integral wastegate design and both have the controller mounted on the unit to operate the wastegate. The oil and water one has both sets of lines and the oil only also has lines too (pretty sure; last time I saw them.)  The 'good' one also has the exh pipe connector and the oxygen sensor bung.

As always, it is a good idea to put a kit in them; my understanding is that it is not that difficult if you are at all adept at mechanics.

If there is interest I want $150 for both/everything. I don't think it is worth shipping (well, the oil/water one, maybe) so I thought I would try this locally just to see.

I expect it would be good for moderate boost on a 2.8 but that is my guess. As I mentioned, the big deal is the water jacket.

Contact me by email or PM if interested; I can take and send pix.

giving this a bump; I AM going to sell this stuff and will put it up on a few 'for sale' websites so wanted to raise the issue again here.

I think it would be a good starting point for a turbo'd 2.8 or 3.4 pushrod motor.

PM me if interested.
thanks

any t3 turbo off of any mid 80s car is a waste of time so I dont' know why you want to try and sell it here.  Just ebay it.  Its better suited for a 1.5 liter honda.

But I guess you wont' be able to see this. Evil

Unfortunatley , as much as I hate to agree with him  Shaun is Correct. a T3 based turbo is useless for even a stock 2.8. Several people have Dynoed these on Pennocks with dismal results (150 RWHP)

if you want to make real power turbo-ing a 2.8

Not trying to be a dick , but if someone spends all that time building a proper turbo car , you need to properly size the turbo and not just guess @ whats a good size.  The local Shop that builds cheap Turbo Civics here in oakville Uses T3's as their base stage 1 setup on SOHC 1.5 Vtecs.  IF you go to a DOHC engine such as a ZC16 they bump the turbo considerably. Turbocharghing is a science and can't be guessed at.

Hear hear...I'm not even sure what that means, but the general consensus from watching lots of movies is that it means I agree.

How does that other quote go?  "It's just wee".

Your only limitations are set from within, by a lack of vision.  But to have vision alone leaves the process idle.  Ergo, without action your thoughts are worthless.
